What a month it's been! This August saw the first full NMRA National Train Show since 2019, taking place in the St. Louis metro area. Model railroaders and hobby industry professionals from across the country (and overseas) convened in the area for the event, which was a welcome return for many. Our annual mid-year product announcements coincided with the start of the show, and as you'll see in our Product News section, there's a lot to look forward to from the Bachmann lineup in the coming months.

SD40-2 locomotives continue to play a major role in freight transportation today

DCC-Ready Diesel Locomotive
The SD40-2 was one of EMD's best-selling locomotives, with nearly 4,000 units delivered to more than 30 railroads between 1972 and 1989. Today, the vast majority survive in active service, and a great number remain crucial to freight operations for their original owners (or their successor railroads.) Examples can be found both across North America, and on railroads as far afield as Panama, Brazil, North Africa, and Australia. Designed for a wide variety of mainline and industrial roles, they are powered by a 3,000HP 16-cylinder EMD 16-645-E3 Prime mover. One distinctive spotting feature, when compared against other similar EMD locomotives, is their longer than average end platforms.
The Bachmann SD40-2 features realistic, prototypical detail. Features include separately-applied handrails, operating headlights, all-wheel drive, a precision can motor, E-Z Mate® knuckle couplers, and blackened metal wheels with RP25 contours. Models in this latest release arrive DCC-ready with an 8-pin socket, while other examples in our line come DCC installed, or with DCC Sound Value featuring the Soundtraxx® diesel package.

A WHOLE LOT OF NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS...
Our 2022 Mid-Year Announcement brochure debuted at the NMRA National Train Show in mid-August. This year a number of exciting new products have been unveiled, including the Amtrak® Acela® II in HO scale, the Siemens ALC-42 in N scale, the EMD GP40 in Large Scale, and the return of the Baldwin Outside-Frame 2-8-0 in On30, now featuring metal gears, Soundtraxx® Tsunami2™ DCC, and factory-finished to replicate North American oil burning examples. A Visit to the National Museum of Transportation
While our team was in St. Louis for the NMRA National Train Show, we took some time to visit the fabulous National Museum of Transportation. With rail exhibits ranging from the Big Boy to a Rotary Snow Plow, to PCC streetcars, and numerous steam locomotives, the collection at this museum is well worth a visit if you happen to be in the region!
