Academic Support Services- A Friendly Reminder

It is week three of the quarter, and as is the nature of the quarter system, you may already be feeling the push of deadlines and fast turnaround on assignments in your classes. The Honors Institute would like to remind you that a successful student is a student that takes advantage of the various support services offered through the college. If you are feeling like you need help in your classes or if you're just in need of some accountability, consider the tutorial services we have available before midterms start. You can find links to all of the academic support you need by clicking on the Foothill Tutoring link in your Canvas Navigation bars for easy access. Please check out the various services offered, including just finding spaces on campus where you can social distance and work quietly without the distractions of home, if that's what you currently need.
Honors Transfer Program

If you are interested in participating in the various transfer partnerships we have with various colleges and universities, be sure to enroll in the Honors Transfer Program. The Foothill College Honors Institute along with the Honors Transfer Council of California (HTTC) has transfer partnerships with colleges and universities across California and the United States. Students completing our Honors Scholar Program enjoy enhanced transfer consideration and/or other benefits at the partner campuses. These may include guaranteed or priority acceptance consideration, special scholarships, housing priority, and pre-transfer library privileges.

If you have not yet done so, please join the Honors Transfer Program to ensure you qualify for the many transfer opportunities available to you as an Honors Scholar. For more information, please visit our Honors Transfer Program.
UC Irvine Honors to Honors Nominations

Eligible students who participate in the UC Irvine Honors to Honors are granted early admission to UCI (not necessarily to their first choice of major) and guaranteed admission to the prestigious Campus wide Honors Collegium. Students also receive priority consideration for a special set of merit-based scholarships.

Students must have a cumulative UC GPA of 3.7 in transferable coursework by the end of Fall 2021. By the end of the Spring 2022 quarter, students must have completed 90 quarter units, minimum major preparation requirements and fulfilled UC English Composition (2 courses), mathematics (1 course), and additional subject requirements (4 courses). In addition, you must also complete the Honors Scholar program by Spring 2022.

In order for Honors Institute students to be considered for UCI's Honors to Honors program, you must have applied to UC Irvine for Fall 2022 and be nominated by the Honors Institute Coordinators. Please complete the following form to begin the nomination process.
UCLA TAP Certification Workshops

If you applied to UCLA for Fall 2022 and are expecting to participate in the UCLA Transfer Alliance Program, the UCLA TAP Certification process has officially begun! We have two more TAP Workshops for you to attend so that you can get started on the process.

Honors Institute applicants to UCLA must complete an Applicant Agreement and register for one of the TAP Certification Workshops below where you will be walked through the complete certification process of completing the worksheet, meeting with a counselor, and obtaining the signature of one of the co-directors.

Please select one of the dates below to register for the Zoom workshop

If you are still waiting on an email confirming UCLA TAP eligibility, please contact us as soon as possible so we can follow up: honors@foothill.edu.
Honors Student Counseling Report Form
All Honors Institute participants are required to meet with a counselor at least once every quarter to review or develop their educational plan, as well as to discuss any personal, career or academic concerns. Counseling appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes.

After your counseling appointment, please complete the new Counseling Report Form to record your visit and help evaluate your plan towards academic, personal, and professional successes. The Honors Institute will verify your appointment at the end of each quarter. This new reporting process replaces the documentation that counselors needed to complete.

If you have any questions regarding your schedule, the transfer application process, or any other questions about being an honors student, please be sure to visit any one of the General Counselors. For Honors specific questions, do contact any one of our Honors Counselors:

Research and Service Learning Symposium
We know that many Honors students look forward to participating in the Bay Area Honors Consortium Research Symposium. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, this year's symposium has been canceled. However, we want to remind you that Foothill College has its very own research and service leadership symposium and we strongly encourage Honors students to apply and participate. Applications are due March 18, 2022, so now is a great time to start envisioning projects and research proposals.

What exactly is the Research and Service Leadership Symposium?

  • The Research and Service Leadership Symposium provides students an opportunity to expand their learning beyond the walls of the classroom (or the confines of the screen), to investigate their world through in-depth research projects, to create and participate in worthwhile service learning activities, including original creative arts projects, and to present their newfound knowledge, insights and experiences to the campus community.
