Service Learning During the Pandemic
Service Learning can take many forms and students can find opportunities with organized groups, public agencies, non-profit institutions, or individuals. Connecting your in-class learning with work which positively influences others not only makes a difference in the lives of others but can also develop your leadership skills.

With the pandemic, it might be difficult to develop such skills, especially if you are sheltering in place. Volunteermatch.org is a free website which can connect you with opportunities in the community that are flexible and virtual.

If you are pursuing the Honors Scholars designation for programs like UCLA TAP, you are required to report your Service Learning with your Honors Scholar petition in the spring prior to your transfer. Please contact the Honors Institute for additional details.
Opportunities for Community Building: Student Engagement Survey

Many students have expressed interest in creating a stronger sense of community with their colleagues in the Honors Institute. While we acknowledge that this sense of community will look different in a COVID world, we also believe it is possible to build meaningful relationships and create enriching experiences despite the fact that we cannot meet physically on campus.

We are very interested in your thoughts about how you might envision such community building. Please take a moment to fill out this brief survey about what types of events or experiences you'd like to see that will help us bring you all together as fellow honors students. We also welcome any input you'd like to provide us in our weekly office hours. Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts.

Honors Student Counseling Report Form

All Honors Institute participants are required to meet with a counselor at least once every quarter to review or develop their educational plan, as well as to discuss any personal, career or academic concerns. Counseling appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes.

After your counseling appointment, please complete the new Counseling Report Form to record your visit and help evaluate your plan towards academic, personal, and professional successes. The Honors Institute will verify your appointment at the end of each quarter. This new reporting process replaces the documentation that counselors needed to complete.
