Living with the Pandemic- A note
The Honors Institute would like to take a moment to recognize the reality that we are all living in- one of great loss, disruption, and isolation. We realize so many of our Foothill community are grappling with the loss of loved ones, illness, and drastic changes in our lives, routines, and livelihood. We honor the role that all essential workers are playing in helping us to stay safe and stay home as much as possible, and we a grateful to be able to work with many of them in the Honors Institute. Please know that we are moving through this with all of you with a great awareness of how challenging life is for many of us. Thank you for showing up and doing the hard work of following through with your goals. We are happy to help you along the way, especially during these times.
If your circumstances are such that you need some help or need to reach out to someone, please remember that Foothill College offers many helpful services and resources. Check out the Foothill College Virtual Campus link to access information regarding resources for mental health, food assistance, and even resources for housing insecurity. And please do not hesitate to reach out to us or any of our counselors for help.

Honors Student Counseling Report Form

|
All Honors Institute participants are required to meet with a counselor at least once every quarter to review or develop their educational plan, as well as to discuss any personal, career or academic concerns. Counseling appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes.
After your counseling appointment, please complete the new Counseling Report Form to record your visit and help evaluate your plan towards academic, personal, and professional successes. The Honors Institute will verify your appointment at the end of each quarter. This new reporting process replaces the documentation that counselors needed to complete.

Research and Service Learning Symposium
|
|
We know that many Honors students look forward to participating in the Bay Area Honors Consortium Research Symposium. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, this year's symposium has been canceled. However, we want to remind you that Foothill College has its very own research and service leadership symposium and we strongly encourage Honors students to apply and participate. Applications are due March 19, 2021, so now is a great time to start envisioning projects and research proposals.
What exactly is the Research and Service Leadership Symposium?
- The Research and Service Leadership Symposium provides students an opportunity to expand their learning beyond the walls of the classroom (or the confines of the screen), to investigate their world through in-depth research projects, to create and participate in worthwhile service learning activities, including original creative arts projects, and to present their newfound knowledge, insights and experiences to the campus community.
Check out the links below for more details if you're interested:
Please contact Allison Herman at hermanallison@fhda.edu or Michael McCusker at mccuskermichael@fhda.edu, co-coordinators of the RSL Symposium.
