Bi-Weekly Newsletter
Welcome to Spring Quarter!

It's a wonderful thing for us to be back in session and working with our students after what seems a very long "break" from campus life. Your instructors, counselors, and Foothill staff contacts have been hard at work to ensure that the transition to a virtual campus is a smooth one and that you feel supported in your academic efforts. We acknowledge that this time is a difficult one for many and we strongly encourage you to keep the lines of communication open with us, your instructors, and your counselors to ensure you are on track and that you know how and where to access the resources you may need at this time.

We also want to encourage you to "attend" as many campus-sponsored events this quarter to ensure we continue to build a sense of community and connection as we make our way through this time of collective isolation.
Honors Institute Office Hours

This quarter we will hold office hours Monday-Thursday between 4-5pm starting tomorrow, April 14, 2020. You can find us by calling the number on the Honors Institute webpage, or you can Zoom in to talk with us face-to-face. Email is also a great way to get through to us during this time. We typically respond within 24 hours of your email during the week. Visit the Honors Institute "About Us" Link here to find more the zoom link and phone number: Honors Institute - Office Hour Information
Honors Scholar Updates

As many of you know, your Service Leadership statements are due by May 29th as part of your Honors Scholar application. For those of you who may not have yet started your service leadership, you may be wondering how, if at all, this can be done now that we are experiencing Shelter In Place during the pandemic. In fact, there are a few ways you can still fulfill this requirement for your honors application.

  1. Become a Foothill College Technology Ambassador- The Foothill College Ambassador program is hiring students who can help support fellow students with their software, hardware, and computer difficulties. If you are hired, you can definitely use this experience as a form of service leadership.
  2. Document the ways you are helping your family during this time: We are all experiencing a different way of life these days, and many of use may be taking on bigger roles at home, caring for siblings, or running errands outside of the house to limit exposure to our families. You can use these experiences as a basis for your service leadership!
  3. Document the ways you are helping your community during this time: Are you grocery shopping for an elderly neighbor? Or perhaps you're making fabric masks or hand sanitizer for your friends and family? Anything you do during this time to help others outside of your home deal with the requirements and limitations of Shelter in Place can be something you write about for your service leadership.

If you are still unsure about how you might fulfill the service leadership requirement, reach out to us and we will help you.

If you are ready to submit your service leadership reflection, please email it to us. It is important that you use the subject title: Completed Service Leadership Form. Thank you so much!
UC Updates during COVID-19 Pandemic

Please be aware that the UC office has sent out information regarding changes to transfer requirements in light of our current Shelter In Place mandate during this pandemic. Specifically, UC will temporarily suspend the letter grade requirement for A-G courses completed in winter/spring/summer 2020 for all students, including UC’s most recently admitted freshmen. This means that, if necessary, you may be able to take these classes as a pass/no pass option. However, if you are considering this option, we strongly recommend you meet with your academic counselor and consult with them first.
Student Support Services

Please know that all faculty, staff, and administration at Foothill College is hard at work to ensure that you still have access to important and necessary resources during this challenging time. We strongly encourage you to reach out and let us know how we can help! Check out the links below to see how these services have changed as part of the Foothill College Virtual Campus:
