BIOL 54H: The Human Genome
What does our DNA tell us about ourselves and our past, present, and future? How does our genome impact our identities and lived experiences in the world? In this course, we will investigate the scientific evidence for the genetic basis of our appearance, health, race, intelligence, and more. More importantly we will discuss how we do such research ethically and how these conclusions could impact society. Lastly, we consider: how will biotechnology like gene editing change our world and our destinies? This course will explore the human genome through the lens of history, philosophy, ethics, society, medicine, and technology. No prior experience in biology required!
