Pre-Law Diversity Conference Online Panel 

Starting Saturday, May 8, 2021, AABA Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area (AABA) will be hosting its 12th annual Pathways to Law Conference, an event that encourages high school and college students - especially those from diverse backgrounds - to pursue a legal career. This year, Pathways to Law will consist of a weekly series of three live panels that will be held online. This is a free event.

Institute for the Global Education of Transfer Students


Global Community College Transfers (https://www.globalcctransfers.org) is a collective of community college and transfer graduates across the United States that aims to close knowledge and access gaps for diverse talent to access global education opportunities and careers in foreign affairs.

Global Community College Transfers (GCCT) proposes to convene an institute for the direct benefit of community college, transfer, and non-traditional students hoping to pursue international careers and global education opportunities. This virtual institute will include participants from the foreign affairs and international education community like the Institute for International Education, American Councils, State Department, USAID, and many more. Come and join the community and learn about international affairs careers and global education opportunities!

All attendees will receive a digital certificate certifying their attendance and will be connected with tangible outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Coordinated summer support from organizations like IIE, American Councils, Diplomats in Residence, and other opportunity providers on various aspects of the application process for community college/transfer students, including but not limited to: personal statement writing, resume writing for applications, talking about non-traditional/transfer experiences in applications, how to plan for success

  • Added to an email list to receive information from opportunity providers for events in Fall 2021 about community college/transfer specific opportunities
  • Joining the community of GCCT and receive updates/emails for happy hours, future events, and mentoring opportunities!

This event aims to unlock the incredible potential and talent of community college/transfer students across the country to pursue international careers and experiences that otherwise would be closed off to them. Come and join our community today!

Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Celebrate Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month! Thursday, May 6th kicks off the festivities with Boba with Thuy and an opening ceremony later that afternoon. Following the opening ceremony their will be a lecture series featuring the creative writing professor and community activist, May-lee Chai, and Professor Scott Lankford, in conversation around how to fight back against Anti-Asian violence. Honors Scholar Petition- Now Open!

Happy Spring Quarter, folks! We want to remind you all that for students who are completing the Honors Scholar program for Fall 2021 admission, all criteria must be completed by the end of Spring 2021. The petition window is now officially open and it will close on May 31, 2021 at 11:59 PM (Pacific time).

To qualify for Honors Scholar designation, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. At least 23 quarter units of honors courses have been completed and passed with a letter grade of C or better.
  2. Minimum GPA in honors courses is 3.25
  3. Service Leadership
  4. Counseling verification forms submitted each quarter
  5. No reports of academic integrity or violations of student code of conduct

Completion of the Honors Scholar criteria will be noted on your Foothill College Academic transcript in early July 2021.

When you are ready to petition for Honors Scholar designation, you can do so by visiting the Honors Institute website and clicking on the link: Petition Request. If you have any questions, please drop by our office hour to chat. We are available on Wednesdays from 12-1 PM and Thursdays from 3-4 PM.
Honors Scholar - Service Leadership Component

One more reminder if you will be petitioning for Honors Scholar designation for Fall 2021 admission- you must complete some type of service leadership before you submit your petition.

  • Service leadership is any action or service you take that has an impact on others in your community
  • Can be personal, volunteer, or paid- but it must have a clear and direct impact on others
  • Service or work you do that has an impact on you, your perceptions, and/or personal growth as well.

The reflection you submit should demonstrate a thoughtful reflection of what you've learned, insights you've gained, and/or ways that this work has informed your understanding of the world and your place in it. If you have any questions about what type of service learning activities count for service learning, please do drop by our office hours to discuss. A service learning rubric is available to help guide you.
Honors Office Hour Update
