KNEWSLETTER Vol. 16

Can you feel time marching on? That's right, we're springing full tilt into boating season and the yards are busy! Get your boat projects lined up NOW! You'll thank us on that first gorgeous day when everyone is looking to get out on the water and your boat is raring to go!

Vroom, vroom! See you out on the water!
FROM THE BILGE
by Paul Kaplan

Possibly it's due to the lack of rain, a buoyant economy or  some other factor, but both of our boatyards are busy! It's been quite some time since we've seen so much activity in the winter, well  in advance to the "spring rush." Not that I'm complaining, mind you. We're very happy to be able to keep our team busy...delighted in fact!

Now that we are experiencing a bit of a backlog I thought I'd share some thoughts with you as to how KKMI can help make scheduling and your overall boatyard visit as efficient, pleasurable and  smooth as possible.

IMTRA PRODUCTS - PRODUCT OF THE MONTH

At KKMI we enjoy working with top companies in the marine industry, one such company being IMTRA. While you may not know the IMTRA name, you're likely familiar with their products, such as Side Power bow & stern thrusters, Muir anchor winches or Lumishore underwater lighting.

Product of the Month
While some might think underwater lighting is only for power boats, they can be equally attractive and VERY functional on a sailboat. Lighting up the area where your swimming ladder is mounted is a great example. So, when planning your next bottom job, you might want to consider adding a light or two. This coming month we are offering the opportunity for your boat to be featured at IMTRA's and KKMI's web site with our installation of an underwater lighting system from Lumishore. Check out their web site ...and then give us a call. It will be illuminating!

BOAT SHOW IS COMING!
April 19-22
Mark your calendars - it's just a month away. We'll be there and we would love to see you!

CHECKING IN ON RANDALL REEVES

Randall is plugging along on his Figure 8 Voyage. Even if you're not a sailor, this is a fascinating read. Randall is showing us the definition of resolve and determination. Don't let it serve as a cautionary tale for sailing around the world, but instead understand that the conditions that Randall are facing are a consequence of sailing around the world under pressure.   Follow his journey on his blog

WE'RE HIRING!
We are so proud of the people who work here - being a family-run business, we embrace the family vibe. If you know someone who would be a good fit in our team of craftspeople, we would love the opportunity to meet with them.

We currently have an opening for a Marine Electrician/Electronics expert. If you or someone you know fits that bill, please send them our way!

This round jar is four inches wide and six inches tall. Guess how many various nuts and bolts are inside. The closest person to the correct answer will win. If there are multiple correct answers, we will randomly select a winner for the tie breaker.

WINNER! Alan Brabon. He guessed 316 bolts. He was the closest to the actual number of... drum roll please... 300 nuts and bolts.

Nice job, Alan! We hope you enjoy your KKMI Rigger's Bag!

KNEWSLETTER CHALLENGE

We would like to thank our "Wall of Shame" for this next challenge. These two pieces used to be connected. What are we looking at here? Hint... if you ever make it to the Pacific Sail & Power Boat Show, this item is on display in our booth.

Simply respond to this email with your answer, or send responses to Marianne:  marianne@kkmi.com   with the subject line "Knewsletter Challenge"

Winner will be selected randomly from all correct submissions. Winner will receive a cool canvas KKMI Rigger's bag.

KKMI SIGHTINGS

While visiting Sacramento to speak with lawmakers about the challenges that over-regulation pose to the boating community, our own Paul Kaplan took a moment to pose with Senator Mike McGuire.

Presenting our 2018 yearbook photos! Looking good, guys & gals!

Lira won "Best Dressed", "Best Eyes", "Most Congenial" and "Most likely to lick your face"

Signs of our rigging special. The guys love it when they see this, it means more recycling money in the kitty for beer Fridays!

We're only running this special for a few more weeks so be sure to take advantage of it before it goes away!

Party boats in the Kyard! It's always a fun atmosphere when these guys are here.

Frank and his crew from Lovely Martha know how to work a boat yard.

KYARD PET OF THE MONTH

We were feline like mixing things up this month... meet "Tux" - more formally known as Tuxie McLovin'.  She's a rescue, been with her person for 5 years and is probably 6ish. She presides over her 37' Amazon - Solla Sollew, stalking seabirds from deck and demanding pets from passersby, but she is not a fan of the engine. Good thing Solla Sollew is a sailboat!
