FROM THE BILGE
by Paul Kaplan

As we close out 2016 and enter the New Year it's time to reflect on the past and look to the future. No matter where you stand, we all recognize that our world has changed in ways we never imagined. For many, I believe, these changes have been bittersweet. Thankfully for KKMI, what changes there have been are nothing but sweet. And for the things we hold dearly, they will not change. Given all the circumstances in the world today, this is quite noteworthy.

THANK YOU 2016 BOATS!

LAST EDITION'S QUESTION:

QUESTION:
If your boat has been involved in an accident, whether it's your fault or not, who is responsible for selecting what boatyard will make the repairs?

  1. The insurance company.
  2. The marine surveyor.
  3. The owner of the vessel.
  4. All the above.
ANSWER:
C. As the vessel owner, you are entitled to select what company makes the repairs.

In fact, it is illegal for a surveyor, or the insurance adjustor to "steer" the repairs to any one company.

FYI - KKMI works with all insurance companies and is regarded as one of the few yards on San Francisco Bay that can tackle a broad spectrum of repairs.

LIFE AT THE KYARD

We got these photos from Mark P. He had his boat Carquinez Coot in the yard for some touch ups. Thanks for sharing Mark! It was nice having you!

Please send your photos -  We'd love to hear about your adventures!
KYARDOG OF THE MONTH

Meet Ragnar. Ragnar is a 3 1/2 year old Chocolate Field Lab.

For the first 18 months of his life he trained as "Working Dog" for detecting explosives. He spent 6 hours a day training on the streets of San Francisco working in office buildings, all over Fisherman's Wharf and Downtown. For fun he'd spend another couple hours a day swimming at Chrissy Field.

Needless to say this dog has a huge amount of energy, loves to work with people and is driven to check out what's going on in his neighborhood. He especially loves escalators and elevators.

Then life sometime takes a drastic turn and Ragnar retired from explosive detecting and expanded his neighborhood to both Sausalito and Richmond yard.

His favorite activity is to greet crew as they arrive in the morning with his ball in his mouth ready to play before work and during breaks. He cannot decide if he likes tugging with or chasing the ball more - he wants both. At the end of the day we walk the yard to check out the activity and run down each dock to make sure we are all closed down for the night.

SEE YOU NEXT TIME!

Until we pop back into your inbox... we hope to see you around the Bay or in the Kyard!
