Knewsletter Vol. 8

Well, it's official... Punxsy here has seen his shadow and that means 6 more weeks of winter. The great news about that is that you have 6 more weeks to get your projects done before the boating season starts! We are here and ready to help.

Meanwhile... we hope you enjoy this edition of our Knewsletter. It's filled with fun and informative things to keep you in the Know... <-- we didn't even have to mess with that one - score!

FROM THE BILGE
by Paul Kaplan

The other day someone asked me, "Shouldn't this be titled 'From The Crow's Nest', after all don't you have a bird's eye view?" I thought this was a great question. While there's no doubt my job is to help steer KKMI in a positive direction and I'm always trying to look ahead, the view is not always clear. Even with the best "nav" tools available, we all can get off course...but hopefully not run aground.   Read more

HEATING UP THIS WINTER
By Caleb Carlson

If this photo isn't enough to scare you I wish that I had a video of the sparks and flames shooting 2 feet out of the cord.  I guess the boat owner was too busy with the fire extinguisher to film it.
WINTERTIME PROJECT FACILITIES
KKMI has more large protected spaces for your boat than any other boat yard!
You know that project that you talk about every summer when you're too busy using your boat? That one that you vow to do this year? Make this the season you get it done!!!

FEBRUARY SPECIAL
LAST KNEWSLETTER TRIVIA QUESTION/ANSWER & WINNER

WINNER! Congratulations to Scott Cyphers!

Scott and his lovely fiance, Hana

QUESTION:
Locate the five (5) differences between the two photos below:

1. Shadow against tent in background missing
2. Wood hole punch on block missing
3. Hole in block fitting missing
4. Wire in turnshackle missing
5. Blocks on line missing

In fairness... some of you pointed out the differences in the line as three separate items. We can see how that might have been a misunderstanding - so we allowed it.

KNEWSLETTER CHALLENGE...

This isn't a Trivia question... and sometimes we just want to have a silly challenge... so we we are renaming this section from "Trivia" to "Challenge".

As a result of avoiding news these days, we've been listening to more music on the radio... while doing so, we've been reminded of favorite "Boat" songs...

If I had a boat - Lyle Lovett

What is YOUR favorite boat themed song?

We will pick our favorite of all submissions by vote - if multiple people submit the same song, we will go with the first person who submitted it.

Winner gets a set of KKMI lines! Woot! Woot! Here's Scott with his prize... Look at that smile! We want to make you smile like that! Send in your favorite "boat" song!

Send responses to Marianne: marianne@kkmi.com

We are really looking forward to this "work"!

KYARDOG OF THE MONTH

Meet Moose!

Moose loves to visit the Kyard with his person, Alex, and get things from the Chandlery. As you can see... he's the perfect lap dog. He loves to hang out on his 80' ketch. It's always a pleasure to have you in the yard, Moose, we always look forward to it!
LIFE AT & BEYOND THE KYARD

A fine "Happy New Year" photo from John Henry. Thanks John & Crew - Happy New Year to you too! Thanks so much for the photo!

Here is an interesting job that's been happening at the yard... we are rebuilding the rudder on a 1960's aluminum S&S sailboat to reduce corrosion and make it easier to remove in the future. The piece in the mill is the bottom part of the rudder skeg...

Here it is attached to the keel...

And finally all prettied up and ready for her close up! Nice job guys!

Please send your photos -  We'd love to hear about your adventures!
SEE YOU NEXT TIME!

Until we pop back into your inbox... we hope to see you around the Bay or in the Kyard!
