Message From The President, Karen Bogart
With the arrival of Fall last week, we find ourselves in a season traditionally marked by transformation, renewed focus, and purposeful momentum. It’s the perfect time to reflect on the growth and connection we’ve cultivated over the Summer—and to look ahead with intention to the opportunities coming this Fall.
This Summer was a season of innovation and momentum for the NACD PSW Chapter. We introduced program workshops—a new initiative designed to deliver focused, timely insights on pressing boardroom issues. Our first two sessions explored the board’s role in investor communications and the evolving dynamics of tariffs—both highly relevant topics that support directors in staying ahead of the curve. More workshops are planned for the upcoming programming season to continue this important work.
We also came together in person for a series of meaningful engagements that reflected the strength, reach, and diversity of the NACD PSW Chapter community:
· In June, we gathered at Direct Relief in Santa Barbara, CA, one of the world’s leading humanitarian aid organizations, for a powerful session focused on excellence in nonprofit governance. The event highlighted the importance of mission-driven leadership and the strategic role boards play in high-performing nonprofit organizations.
· In July, we held our Summer Networking Social in Los Angeles, CA, generously sponsored by KPMG. It was a memorable evening of conversation and connection that reminded us of the importance of community within our director network. We are most appreciative of our Chapter Board Director, Lisa Quateman, for graciously opening her home to our director community.
· Also in July, the NACD PSW Chapter Board convened for our Summer Board Retreat in Long Beach, CA, where we focused on strategic planning, alignment, and ways to enhance our NACD member value proposition and regional business community outreach.

· In September, we hosted two standout events: one in Las Vegas, NV, where we explored healthcare trends and their implications for corporate strategy and board oversight; and another in Phoenix, AZ, where we convened business, academic, healthcare, and board leaders for a strategic dialogue on regional economic development and leadership priorities.
These gatherings weren’t just events—they were demonstrations of leadership in action. They underscored our Chapter’s commitment to meaningful engagement, continuous learning, and shared advancement.
Looking ahead, our Fall programming builds on this energy. We’ll explore board governance topics that are central to future-ready leadership—succession planning, sustainability, healthcare, and emerging governance issues. These discussions will help directors stay grounded, informed, and prepared for the evolving challenges of board service.
On the National front, we look forward to seeing many of you at the NACD Directors Summit in Washington, D.C., on October 12–15. This annual event is a premier opportunity to connect with directors and thought leaders from across the country.
And don’t miss the 18th Annual Corporate Directors Symposium, our flagship event, returning on November 13 at the Jonathan Club in Los Angeles. Our 2025 theme is “Reshaping Governance: From Uncertainty to Growth,” and features a world-class lineup of prominent directors and subject matter experts. The event is almost sold out, so I encourage you to register soon to secure your place.
We’re also proud to welcome Egon Zehnder as the new Nom/Gov Roundtable Sponsor, joining a group of partners who help sustain and strengthen the NACD PSW Chapter. Their support helps ensure we can continue delivering high-quality programming. If you have sponsorship ideas or connections, please reach out to our Executive Director, Alexis Santucci, or Sponsorship Chair, Les Sussman.
Thank you for your continued involvement, engagement, and support. The strength of the NACD PSW Chapter lies in members like you—directors who bring dedication, curiosity, and a deep commitment to governance excellence. If you have ideas for how we can grow our reach or elevate our work, I would love to hear from you.
Wishing you a Fall season filled with purpose, progress, and shared innovation.
Karen Bogart - NACD PSW Chapter President

We were pleased to host the NACD Pacific Southwest Chapter's Arizona Advisory Board Meeting & Program on September 17 in Paradise Valley, Arizona. NACD PSW Arizona Advisory Board Chair, Dr. Jacque Sokolov, led an engaging evening of conversation, regional industry and economic development updates, and strategic dialogue with prominent business, academic, and government leaders and board directors.
The meeting featured a compelling discussion on the convergence of technology and healthcare - an increasingly vital focus for boards across industries. Richard Munro, NACD PSW Chairman, and Tariq Khan of TiE delivered a thought-provoking conversation, followed by a lively networking reception.
Arizona continues to see major advances in biosciences, AI, and semiconductor manufacturing, all of which are reshaping the regional and national business landscape. Attendees explored how these developments are influencing board priorities, including innovation in healthcare and life sciences, women’s health and Fem-Tech, the growing impact of AI on corporate strategy, and emerging opportunities in CHIP technology and business expansion. Future NACD PSW Arizona Advisory Board meetings will also feature economic opportunities in mining, real estate, and electricity and water, all of which are critical to continued Phoenix area economic expansion.

We also heard from ASU leader, Dr. Sherine Gabriel about the exciting progress being made towards opening their 6 new academic schools within the next 2 years. NACD PSW is building an expanded future relationship with the new schools in addition to our existing collaborative relationship with the New Governance Lab under Dr. Amy Hillman.
This was truly an inspiring evening with business, academic, and government leaders who are driving incredible economic development expansion in the greater Phoenix area. NACD Pacific Southwest Chapter will continue to convene these leadership forums on a regular basis as the leading board membership organization in the Pacific Southwest, and one of the largest Chapters in NACD (National Association of Corporate Directors).
Special thanks to Dr. Jacque Sokolov, Dr. Mitzi Krockover, Tariq Khan, Richard Munro, Karen Bogart, Susan Mallory, Alex Pasek, our Advisory Board members, and all our guests for contributing to such a dynamic and insightful evening. The NACD Pacific Southwest Chapter is very proud to be a convening influence in the continued expansion of the Phoenix and Arizona economies, and the powerful value that strategic boards can add to the profitable growth and expansion of Arizona companies at the forefront of technology.
