Norwalk student registration opened today on March 1! The NCSD is changing the date that registration begins in order to allow families more time to complete this process and eliminate a duplicative process previously in place for new kindergarten students. Please see the registration information below in the next section for more information.

Speaking of registration, did you know that the Norwalk High School Student Council is an award-winning organization? It’s true! Students at NHS, with the assistance of student council sponsor Ryan Alfred, have repeatedly won a Carrie Chapman Catt Award from Iowa Secretary of State, Paul Pate. Below is the information about the award:

“Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate kicked off a new voter registration initiative on September 10, 2019, aimed at Iowa high school students. Every school in Iowa that signs up and registers at least 90 percent of their eligible students to vote will receive the Carrie Chapman Catt Award, named after the Iowan who was a national leader in the women’s suffrage movement. Schools that register 50% and 70% of their eligible students will also receive statewide recognition.”

Make sure to get your students registered for school next year and make sure to register to vote!

Registration for 2023-2024 will open on March 1, 2023. An annual registration must be completed for ALL students (returning and new). Parents can register students at www.norwalkschools.org by clicking under “Enrollment”. Parents of students who are new to the district, click on the “New Families” page under “Enrollment”. Parents should register all students that will be returning in 23-24 by logging into their Parent Portal account. Maintaining current and accurate student records is essential to student safety and service.

MRA Survey for Leader In Me

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Our school is participating in Leader in Me program, which teaches 21st-century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader.  

Each school will be conducting surveys to learn more about key areas of strength and areas of needed growth in our school. We use this data from each school to create action plans for the following year in the area of academics, culture and leadership.  

The survey is completely voluntary, but we do hope to get feedback from one member of every household. The parent/guardian survey takes about 12 minutes to complete and will ask questions about your child and about his or her experience in our school. If you have more than one child attending different schools, we would appreciate it if you could take the survey for each school that your children attend.

Norwalk Basketball Is Headed to State!

Congratulations to our Norwalk Warrior Boys Basketball program on punching their ticket to State in the Class 4A State Tournament! Warriors played a tough game against Sioux City East in Denison, Iowa last night and came out on top with a 64-58 win! Norwalk will play next week at Wells Fargo Arena in the IHSAA State Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 8 against the Valley Tigers at 3:45 PM. Congrats Warriors!

Wrestling

Warrior wrestling finished a historic season sending 9 wrestlers to state this year! Congratulations to the entire program and a special congrats to our state champs Maddux Borcherding-Johnson who grasped the 3A State Championship title at 285 and to Tyler Harper for taking 2nd place in the 3A 106 weight class! All 9 state qualifiers were recognized at Monday night's board meeting on Feb. 27th for their accomplishments.
