At Valles Caldera National Preserve, we are eager to provide free educational programs and opportunities for students across New Mexico. From getting into classrooms to hosting field trips, our team provides valuable curriculum-based, hands-on, and multidisciplinary experiences for your students. Programs often focus on geology, wildlife, ecology, environmental science, history, public lands, and careers in the National Park Service.
Every Kid Outdoors is one of the major areas in which we provide programs. This is a program, implemented by the federal government, that provides a free interagency pass to fourth grade students. Typically, we provide an in-school or virtual visit that teaches about the National Park Service, what we work to protect and students’ roles in that, and general information about Valles Caldera National Preserve. This is a wonderful opportunity for your students to be able to enjoy their public lands with family and friends, free of charge.
Field trip experiences are, by far, our favorite days on the job. The use of hands-on, experience-based learning activities allows for students’ heightened understanding of Valles Caldera, including its geologic and cultural history. Funding for buses to the Preserve may be available on a case-by-case basis.
