As winter settles in, Boone County, Iowa, is transformed into a winter wonderland. The crisp air, the quiet beauty of snow-covered landscapes, and the twinkling lights of the holiday season are all signs that the most enchanting time of the year has arrived. Whether you're a fan of outdoor adventures, cozy indoor activities, or enjoying the local holiday festivities, there's no shortage of ways to make the most of winter in Boone County.


Winter in Boone County presents the perfect opportunity to embrace the beauty of the season and the great outdoors. With snow blanketing the county's parks and trails, there are plenty of activities for the adventurous spirit.

Melissa Bell Photography is a locally owned business specializing in several genres of photography. Melissa loves to capture memories for her clients at a variety of local outdoor parks, embracing the beauty within Boone County. She also has an indoor studio located downtown on Story Street where she can do a variety of indoor sessions and portraits all year long. From styling assistance with her client closet, to perfecting your final gallery, Melissa makes your photography experience as easy as possible, while giving you artwork to treasure forever. Notable News: Melissa Bell Photography was 1 of 660 entries from all 50 states to be selected for the Tri M Graphics nationwide photo contest for their 2025 calendar. Congratulations!

Boone County Historical Society


The Historical Society currently manages and maintains two historical sites: Boone County History Center at 602 Story Street in Boone and the Kate Shelly site located in Moingona, Iowa (currently closed for repairs).The History Center building houses existing exhibits in the Museum and a community room that is available for public & private events. Some highlights include: reopening the 2nd Floor with updated exhibits on Kate Shelley, agriculture, education & Carl Fritz Henning/Ledges, enhanced Dragoon exhibit with a life-sized horse and expanded military exhibit.

Made to Gaze


Made to Gaze is an apparel & home boutique that can be found on Walnut Street in Ogden. Offering a wide variety of merchandise and gifts that include: faith-based, Ogden Bulldog spirit wear, quality apparel & accessories for the whole family from youth & toddler to adults and along with unique home decor & furnishings. Camp Hantesa


Camp Hantesa (pronounced Han-Teh-Sha, meaning ‘red cedars’) was created as a camp of high ideals and has been delivering the Camp Fire promise since their inception: "Young people want to shape the world. Camp Fire provides the opportunity to find their spark, lift their voice, and discover who they are. In Camp Fire, it begins now. Light the fire within."


At Hantesa, the traditions of friendship, learning, service, and leadership are the basis of their education, recreation, and camping programs. Camp Hantesa is located in Boone, Iowa adjacent to Ledges State Park.

KWBG AM1590 & 101.5FM


KWBG is local radio at it's very core. They keep you updated on Boone County news, weather & high school sports every day. KWBG began broadcasting January 15, 1950 at South Story and 230th Streets and later made it's first home in downtown Boone at 813 Keeler St. which is just down the street from where they broadcast today at 824 Keeler St. A notable KWBG achievement, in 2019 KWBG received the National Association of Broadcasters' Crystal Award. This award recognizes radio stations for their year-round commitment to community service. Just like when they took the air in 1950, they will keep us informed & Keep Watching Boone Grow!

Ledges State Park Celebrated 100 Years & a Rededication


It was 100-years to the date on November 9th that Ledges State Park was dedicated. Ledges Park Manager, Andy Bartlett greeted attendees and spoke about the impact that Ledges State Park has had on people and how there are different aspects that makes the park memorable to those that visit. (As reported by KWBG)

'RV There Yet' Filmed in Boone & Story Counties!


Hosts, Kevin & Patrice McCabe, of the Discovery Channel’s popular show, “RV There Yet?” visited the Boone & Ames areas in early October as part of a filming session for an episode that will feature local sights in Boone and Story Counties; including their first time filming at a tailgate party, which included the Iowa State Marching Band appearance.


The episode, which will air in “RV There Yet?” 4th season, in the Spring of 2025, will feature Ledges State Park, highlight the Rail Explorers on the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad and the High Trestle Trail Bridge in Boone County. After experiencing the exciting attractions of Boone County, they traveled to Ames downtown district and tailgated at the RV lot at Jack Trice Stadium.

Iowa PBS in Boone County filming 2 SHOWS!


Iowa PBS came to Boone County, IA in October to film for Season 2 of "Road Trip Iowa" which will air in 2025. "Road Trip Iowa" adventures across Iowa's scenic byways, covering the sites, attractions and beauty along the way. It's a great way to discover what may be in 'your own backyard.'


Iowa PBS returned to Boone County, IA in November to film and showcase The Iowa Arboretum & Gardens Treehouse Village on another show, "Iowa Life" which uncovers the diverse tapestry of Iowa's people, cultures and stories. Click "Watch Iowa Life Episode" to view now.

WHO TV 13's Megan Reuther from Hello Iowa Films in Boone


WHO TV 13's Megan Reuther from Hello Iowa made a stop in Boone, Iowa mid-September to checkout Boone's scenic railroad & attractions. Megan stopped at the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad to talk with General Manager, Travis Stevenson to cover Thomas the Train's arrival, a memorable experience for parents & kids. Then Kris Blocker, Executive Director of the BCCVB covered the many other attractions of Boone County that can be enjoyed in a variety of seasons. Community Christmas Celebration


Holiday Spirit filled the hearts of the community and fun was had by many at the Community Christmas Celebration, sponsored by Landus and parade float prizes sponsored by Midland Power Cooperative. Thank you to everyone who participated. Special thanks to: Francis Steele VFW Post 817, Boone, IA for serving coffee and hot cocoa, Boone Hy-Vee for all the yummy cookies, Shauna Brandon Pickering for leading the beautiful music with Sacred Heart Catholic School Boone, Iowa, City of Boone, Iowa public works for getting the tree and grounds ready, Boone Police Department for helping with street signs & closures, Elijah Stines - Boone Mayor for playing Buddy the Elf and Marsha Moorman & Terry Moorman for all the hours helping. We hope everyone enjoyed the evening and can't wait to see you next year!

DMACC Boone Campus Host 1st NJCAA DII Women's Golf Championship at Cedar Pointe Golf Course May 13-16, 2025


"We are looking forward to having the inaugural NJCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship this coming spring," said NJCAA Division II Women's Golf Committee Chair, Kevin O'Connor.

"DMACC, along with its great staff including President Rob Denson, Director of Athletics BJ McGinn, and Head Golf Coach Chris Seaboch, will partner with the staff at Visit Boone County to provide a Championship atmosphere for all involved including coaches, players, and spectators," commented BJ McGinn. "Our community is appreciative of the chance to host such a high-class event."
