Start Up Company Pilot Successful

The Starter Company pilot program through the Windsor Essex Economic Development Corporation is coming to a close.
The Small Business Centre has rewarded nearly 50 $5,000 grants over a two-year period to help jump-start new business in the region.

Basics of Writing a
Business Plan


A good business plan is your road map to success!  A business plan is also required when applying for any type of small business financing.  Attend one of these FREE seminars to learn how to develop a business plan that will work for you!  This session will cover:
  • Required elements of a business plan
  • Breaking down a business plan into manageable pieces
  • Where to gather relevant information for a business plan
  • How to professionally arrange your ideas and research
  • What to do with the plan when it's completed


Starter Company

This Government of Ontario program provides people aged 18-29 with the resources and knowledge needed to start and grow their own business. The program includes one-on-one guidance from the Small Business Centre, mentoring with local professionals, funding of up to $5,000 and access to the following workshops.  Apply online today!

Don't qualify for Starter Company? The classes are free  and open to the public.

Canada Summer Jobs

Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. It is designed to focus on local priorities, while helping both students and their communities.

Canada Summer Jobs:
  • provides work experiences for students
  • supports organizations, including those that provide important community services; and
  • recognizes that local circumstances, community needs and priorities vary widely
Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next school year.

By way of five national priorities, CSJ also supports the following:
  • employers involved in the welcome and settlement of immigrants (including Syrian refugees) in Canada;
  • employers that hire Indigenous peoples;
  • opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Information, Communications and Technology (ICT);
  • employers involved in activities celebrating Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation; and
  • small businesses, in recognition of their contribution to the creation of new jobs.

Libro Credit Union and WEtech Alliance have teamed up on an exciting initiative that supports innovative and tech startup companies in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent! Five (5) plucky startups will be selected into the Libro StartUP program that runs February 2017 to December 2017.

Young Entrepreneurs, Make Your Pitch!

Presented by Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) and the Ministry of Economic Development and Growth, the Young Entrepreneurs, Make Your Pitch competition invites high school students in Ontario to pitch their business ideas in a two-minute video. Videos are judged through online public voting (40%) and expert judges' scores (60%).

Twenty finalists are chosen who are awarded a trip to Toronto to pitch their ideas live at OCE's Discovery conference and showcase, May 15-16, 2017, in front of a panel of judges from the entrepreneur community.

The Small Business Centre now offers three levels of membership exclusively to its clients through its Business Advantage Program. Entrepreneurs can access existing programs, training and services, as well as discounts for SBC events and a number of perks from local companies offering support to small businesses. 

Clients who sign up for a GROW membership can take advantage of discounted services and products from local partner businesses such as Allegra, Image 360, Vistaprint, Staples, Blab! Media, Hawkins & Co. Accounting and Lacasse Printing Company.
