Monthly News & Updates

May 2026

Happy Mother’s Day to all who fill that important role in our lives in any form: moms, stepmoms, grandmas, guardians, mentors, pet moms, and every nurturing soul in between. We hope your day is filled with love, appreciation, and special moments with those who matter most.

You may have noticed we did not send out an April newsletter. Quite honestly, sometimes life gets busy balancing full-time jobs, families, volunteer work, and everything in between and time simply gets away from us. That also means one thing… our busy season is here!

May officially kicks off what we lovingly call “WAO Season,” and there is already so much happening in our small but mighty community.

First up is Tag Day on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 8:00 AM–Noon. We are currently seeking volunteers for any amount of time, whether it’s the full morning or just an hour to spare. If you are available to help, please contact us at support@weareoglesby.net or call/text Angie at (815) 202-6433.

We will also be holding our annual Memorial Park Cleanup on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 9:00 AM–Noon. Help us freshen up one of Oglesby’s most meaningful spaces as we prepare for Memorial Day. Bring gloves, rakes, shovels, trimmers, wheelbarrows — or simply yourself and a willingness to help. In addition, we are searching for resources, contacts, or guidance for restoring the cannon and helicopter at Memorial Park. We have exhausted city resources and are hopeful someone in our community may know individuals or companies experienced in:

• Military display restoration

• Sandblasting & painting

• Metal restoration

• Structural repair

• Veteran memorial preservation

If you can volunteer, donate materials or time, or connect us with someone who may be able to help, please contact Nick Nosalik at treasurer@weareoglesby.net or call/text (815) 228-7047.

We Are Oglesby will be attending the City of Oglesby Bark in the Park on Saturday, May 23rd! Stop by, say hello, and enjoy a fun community event with your pawsome friends.

There is a lot happening right here in our small town, and we invite you to stay connected and follow along with upcoming events by visiting our events page. Thank you for continuing to support local, support community, and support Oglesby.

Welcome Abigail "Abby" Beckcom

We have an exciting update to finally share!

We are excited to officially welcome Abigail Beckcom as part of our very first WAO Marketing Intern initiative!

Over the coming weeks, members may see Abby stopping in, connecting with businesses, learning more about your goals, and how to continue to grow the visibility of everything happening throughout our amazing community.

This initiative is another step forward in our mission to better support and promote our members while continuing to bring fresh ideas and energy to We Are Oglesby. We are incredibly excited for what’s ahead and can’t wait to continue taking local marketing efforts to the next level right here in Oglesby!

Be sure to give Abby a warm welcome when you see her out and about!

About Abigail:

Abigail Beckcom is a graduating Illinois Valley Community College student with a passion for creativity and community engagement. Through her work in marketing and content creation, she has enjoyed finding ways to connect people and share meaningful stories.

What peaked Abby’s interest in applying for the WAO internship was the opportunity to help market the city of Oglesby while supporting the small businesses that make the community special. Coming from a family that owns a small business, she loves the idea of promoting local businesses and highlighting the people and places that bring the community together.
