President's Message
by Rick Reed, CPM®

When summer approaches each year, I always think to myself that it will be a few months where things slow down and flow at a more leisurely pace. As many years as I have been in the field of property management, I should know by now that summers are rarely slow or leisurely at my office. In many ways the same has been true for our IREM chapter, which has seen a lot of activity. Here are just a few of the highlights:
- In May, we attended the annual IREM Gala at the Gaylord where, along with our sister chapters from DC and MD (West-Central and Baltimore chapters), we raised an astonishing $109,500 that went to support Special Love for Children with Cancer. Many thanks to Melissa Steele and Cynthia Sickman, and others from our chapter who were on the committee that hosted such an amazing event.
- In June we enjoyed a happy hour at The Perch at the Capitol One Center. Thank you to the folks at JLL for hosting the behind-the-scenes building tours.
- Also in June, our DEI Committee spotlighted Matt McCoun on our social media platforms as part of an initiative to recognize Pride Month.
- Our annual Summer Party was held in July at The Winery at Bull Run where we raised over $12,000 in support of Women Giving Back. Kudos to Amy Waldron, Yvette Donnelly, Irina Hood, Jatonne Trianna, and Hadiyah Abdul-Saboor for putting together such a fun party with a purpose.
In addition to those events, since our last newsletter there were a few chapter members who received national recognition. Please join me in congratulating these five for their remarkable achievements:
- In April, Jill Hunt, ARM® was selected as a 2023 DISI Leader. The Diversity & Inclusion Succession Initiative career development program offers mentorship and scholarships for those pursuing their CPM certifications.
-
In May, Maj-Lene Keech, CPM®, ARM®, was selected to serve as IREM’s Region 3 Vice President for the 2024-2025 term.
- In July, three of our members were recognized for their significant impact on the real estate industry by being named IREM 30 Under 30 recipients: Ngozi Gonzalez, ARM®, Christine Kim, CAM, and Benjamin Smith, ARM®
There are many more exciting events and ways to be engaged coming up soon, many of which are highlighted elsewhere in this newsletter. We encourage you to take advantage of these offerings, and to invite others on your team. Stay safe and enjoy the rest of the summer!

Meet DISI Leader Jill Hunt, ARM®
We asked Jill about her background and what led her to apply to become a DISI Leader. Here’s what she had to say:

I am a graduate of Michigan State University. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Merchandising with a minor in Business. I have worked in property management 13 years.
