Third Quarter 2024 news & updates

President's Message

by Rick Reed, CPM®

Even though our IREM chapter runs on a calendar year, most of us work with owners, clients, or tenants that function on a fiscal year (often beginning in October). Parents with school-aged children begin a new cycle in late August or right after Labor Day. So, while many of us have recently started a new annual cycle, our chapter’s 2024 cycle is almost at an end.

Our next and final general membership meeting will occur on Wednesday, November 6 at the Hilton McLean Tyson’s Corner (happy hour begins at 6pm). If you have not already registered, I encourage you to do so. It will be our annual awards dinner and we will swear in the 2025 Board of Directors, including our new Chapter President Karen Trueman. There will be one additional gathering before year end. Please plan to join us for the annual Tri-Chapter Happy Hour on December 10th at Clyde’s Gallery Place. This is always a fun and informal opportunity to meet up with our colleagues in the Greater DC and West-Central Maryland chapters. Be on the lookout for additional information soon.

We are extremely lucky to have such a talented and hard-working group of people in our chapter, and it has been my great honor to work within the volunteer leadership for so many years. I sincerely thank my colleagues for the work that they have done to provide education, support, and fun for so many people.

IREM Global Summit

Many from the chapter recently attended the annual IREM Global Summit, held this year in Indianapolis. As always, IREM Headquarters hosted a stellar event, and our Board of Directors will be meeting the afternoon prior to the Awards & Installation dinner to take what we learned at the Summit and strategize future plans for the chapter to ensure we continue to be THE resource for education and networking in the real estate management industry in Northern Virginia and beyond.

September General Membership Meeting

Our September general membership meeting took place at Morton’s in Crystal City, where we learned about working across the generations from guest speaker Maj Roembke. We also installed two new CPM members, Liz Hale of Cushman & Wakefield and Michael Reaves of Bozzuto.
