CELEBRATING AUTSIM ACCEPTANCE MONTH
|
Friends, families, and staff at Abilities First have been busy celebrating Autism Acceptance Month! This is a special time when people around the world come together to promote autism awareness, acceptance, and inclusion. Each found special ways to commemorate the importance of not just this month but the yearlong goals of promoting awareness and acceptance.
In addition to promoting awareness and acceptance, Autism Acceptance Month also serves as a reminder that there is still much work to be done to improve the lives of individuals with autism and their families. Many individuals with autism face significant barriers to education, employment, and healthcare, and may also experience discrimination and exclusion.
Thank you to all our wonderful staff who helped show their support, (wearing blue all month long), and raise awareness about autism and the challenges faced by individuals on the autism spectrum, while also promoting greater understanding, acceptance, and inclusion.

Middle School Students Promote Acceptance & Awareness
|

|
In the spirit of Autism Acceptance Month, middle school students Julian, Giovanni and FAFNY Board Member, (and Mom), Marlo De La Rosa met with the Highland Middle School Principal, Vice Principal and School Psychologist to try to find ways to highlight and bring awareness to Autism Acceptance/Awareness Month.
The staff worked with Julian and Giovanni to make a bulletin board prominently placed for the students and school staff to read informative facts about Autism. The students also organized a lunch time awareness table presenting their classmates with the Abilities First Power to Pledge forms, stating their commitment to advance diversity and inclusion, and hand out Autism Awareness bracelets and stickers to those who signed and pledged support.
Julian and Giovanni have made a significant impact in their school and community, raising awareness about autism, and promoting acceptance. It is inspiring to see young people taking the initiative to make a difference in their community, and their project serves as a reminder of the importance of promoting acceptance and understanding of autism.
