Inspire Love, Embrace Christ, Engage the World

Parking Lot 2 (the Upper Parking Deck) is closed through early August while we reinforce sections of the concrete. This work will strengthen the deck and extend its life for years to come.

To make Sundays easier during the closure, we've secured overflow parking at War Memorial Stadium (the west lot, closest to Fair Park) through August, 7:30AM-1:00PM.

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT PHUMC?

That's a wrap for Midyouth Service & Learning Days! Last week our Midyouth volunteered at Project Transformation, created first aid kits for unhoused individuals at the CALS Main Library, worked various projects around the church and had a lot of fun along the way!

This year's Vacation Bible Camp looked a little different. Different generations gathered to learn about the life of Moses in an immersive way. For three evenings this July, the Great Hall filled with children, siblings, parents, and grandparents learning the same stories, singing the same songs, and discussing the faith that allows us to do extraordinary things. Thank you to our volunteers, youth, and our family ministries team who made this fantastic week possible! A special thanks to Lizzy Chandler for helping to direct this year’s storytelling experience

During Mission Hour this past Sunday, adult, children, and youth volunteers packed 300 care bags to share with our neighbors in need. Be sure to pick one or two up in the bins outside of the Sanctuary or Wesley Hall! Special thanks to Cathy and Tony Bozynski, the Vine and Branch Sunday School class, and the Newton Good News Sunday School class for sponsoring our July Mission Hour.

We know Methodism through its biggest names—John Wesley, circuit riders on horseback, sermons in open fields, a

movement spreading across continents.

But there are many stories about our

denomination that you may not know.

This summer, Rev. Katie Pearce invites you

to discover a few of them. Untold Stories

of Methodism will meet on Wednesday

evenings in Room C236 (the Mirror Room)—July 15, 22, and 29, from 6:00-7:00pm.

Over three weeks, we’ll explore forgotten chapters of our heritage, including the seven sisters of John and Charles Wesley and the story of John Wesley and Thomas Blair. Each evening stands on its own, so come for one week or all three. No background in church history required, just your curiosity and an hour in good company. We hope you’ll join us.

Do you have an incoming 8th-12th grade student who has a heart and a gift for music, audio/visual technology, and/or worship leading? Join us August 3-5th from 10:00AM-2:00PM for our Youth Worship Camp! Students will spend 3 days growing in their discipleship, bonding in community, and receiving hands-on training in music, A/V, and worship leadership. No experience required! The camp is free of charge and will have drop off/pick up at Entrance 7 outside of Wesley Hall. We will be preparing for a special youth-led night of worship on Wednesday, August 5th at 6 PM.

You can register at phumc.com/worship-camp.

Our next PHMen Breakfast will be Friday, August 7 from 7AM-8AM. Our next speaker is church member, Lee Rush, who will speak about his work at Methodist Family Health. You can sign up by clicking the link below or filling out the book at the Welcome Desk.

We're thrilled to announce that starting August 8th, we will be offering a monthly Spanish language worship service for our congregation and the broader Central Arkansas community!

We need your help. Whether you speak Spanish fluently, are learning, or simply feel called to support this new ministry, there is a place for you. We’re looking for volunteers to greet and usher. Contact Rev. Katye Chambers at kchambers@phumc.com or 501-978-0536 if interested!

From July 19–28, 2027, a group from PHUMC will travel to Mwanza, Tanzania for a Service and Learning Trip rooted in partnership with Wesley College, a United Methodist school. We will learn about the school's mission and meet with students. And we'll spend time understanding the ways that education in health, business, communications, and theology is helping transform the Church and the nation.

If you’re interested in participating in this exciting opportunity, join us for an informational zoom meeting on August 12th at 6:00PM! Contact Rev. Katye Chambers at kchambers@phumc.com for the link.

Do you, or someone you know, have gifts to share in church leadership? We are currently accepting nominations for several Pulaski Heights UMC committees with terms beginning January 1, 2027. Most committees serve three-year terms and meet regularly throughout the year. Whether you’re passionate about finances, supporting our staff, or helping shape the vision of the church, there’s a place for you. Committees like Finance, Staff-Parish Relations, Trustees, and more are looking for faithful and committed leaders. You can nominate yourself or someone else by visiting phumc.com/nominations.

The deadline to submit a nomination is Sunday, August 23.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Rev. Jay Clark at jclark@phumc.com or call the church office at 501-664-3600.

This year for our Raney Series, we are doing something a little different. Instead of a guest preacher or presenter, we are going to have a three-night revival.

Methodism was born as a revival movement. For John and Charles Wesley, revival wasn’t a sales pitch for heaven or a performative act. It was the slow, holy work of igniting the church, through the work of the Holy Spirit, to spread what they called “scriptural holiness” across communities. This same revival movement, over generations, helped end slavery, reform prisons, expand education, and open new roles for women in ministry. Revival, at its best, is transformation: of hearts, of congregations, of the world God so loves.

Three nights to gather, sing, pray, listen, and let God do the quiet, persistent work of making us new.

I want to invite you to be a part of something that will create life-long memories. March 29-April 10, 2027, Jay Clark and I will host a Celtic Christianity trip to Ireland. This will be a wonderful opportunity to deepen your faith and see the beauty of God’s creation across the Atlantic, along with others traveling with us.

I am very excited about this trip because it also affords me the privilege of interacting with members of PHUMC in a more informal way, while enjoying the beautiful scenery and food as we enjoy locations that are unique to Ireland, while, at the same time, learning more about our Christian heritage.

I want to encourage you to contact Rev. Jay Clark at jclark@phumc.com for more information. I hope you will prayerfully consider joining us. I look forward to the joy of traveling on this spiritual journey with you!
