WHAT'S HAPPENING AT PHUMC?

We had a blast at Sunday's preschool playdate at the Wonder Place! We played, ate snacks, and even put on a performance! To learn more about our PHLittles program or future preschool playdates, contact Kristie Finney at kfinney@phumc.com.

Sunday, we got a first-hand look at the spaces that will be repaired through our This Place Matters Capital Campaign during our Hard Hat Tours. From worship areas to spaces for children and community gathering, it was inspiring to see how these updates will help us continue to live out our mission for years to come. As we continue writing our church's next chapter, we invite you to prayerfully consider making a pledge to the campaign. Pledge cards can be turned in anytime, however we will have a special time during our October 12 worship services to pray over our pledges.

You can pick up a pledge card at the Campaign Headquarters in the Sky Bridge or give online at phumc.com/this-place-matters.

Do you have a student in college this fall? If so, sign them up for a little love from their PHUMC family. We'll send an encouraging note to freshmen starting their first semester. Then, later this fall we'll send a package to everyone as they head into finals. Youth will be helping us write notes to send! Sign up for College Care Package.

Howard Thurman & The Sacred Call

October 17-18, at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church

As a mystic, theologian, and author of several books, Howard Thurman (1899-1981) believed everyone possessed a call and role in the restoration of God’s beloved creation. Described as the spiritual architect of the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Thurman advised Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and many other sacred activists. He felt called to work that would serve all people and to use the contemplative experience as a path to peace, purpose, empowerment, and oneness. Howard Thurman wrote about this desire in many books, most notably, Jesus and the Disinherited, one that Dr. King carried with him whenever he marched. During this workshop/retreat, we will journey through the life and work of this great sage and look within to learn and reflect on what God is inviting now. Questions? Contact Rev. Katye Chambers at kchambers@phumc.com.
