IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

We spread the Christmas cheer to students at our partner school, Wakefield Elementary. We sponsored 226 kids in 115 families. We had 118 total sponsors from the church including 6 Sunday School classes and the PHUMC Youth! Thank you to our congregation for stepping up to support this school!

Walking the Mourner’s Path is an in-person grief group for anyone who has suffered a significant loss and would like to process it in a group setting. Led by Rev. McMurray, Pam Hunter, and Lesa Booker, it is Christ-centered, scripturally and spiritually based. Through the 8-week program on Mondays, January 22-March 11, from 6:00-8:00PM, mourners learn ways to honor their loved ones, seek spiritual direction, and discover God’s promise of comfort in the community!

There is an $80 fee, which goes toward materials. Sign up at phumc.com/mourners-path or call the church office at 501-664-3600. Questions? Contact Rev. Kathleen McMurray at [email protected].

In conjunction with UAMS Institute on Aging, PHUMC Senior Adult ministries is hosting Super Noggin, a 12-week course beginning Wednesday, January 24th from 10:30-11:30AM. Super Noggin is a series of educational workshops that will teach you about the

lifestyle choices and activities you can do to maintain and even improve your brain health. Sign ups are limited, so call 501-664-3600 or sign up at the Welcome Desk to reserve your spot!

Although most gifts to Pulaski Heights come in the form of cash and check, there are other ways to give. Two of the most common are stock gifts and Individual Retirement Account (IRA) gifts. These gifts have beneficial tax implications. If stock has appreciated, the donor not only avoids the capital gains tax on the appreciation but also receives a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the stock at the time of contribution. Taxpayers age 72 ½ and older are required to make annual distributions from their IRAs. These distributions are then taxed. The Qualified Charitable Distribution permits taxpayers to make donations directly to charitable organizations without paying taxes on the distribution. These are both wonderful ways to support our church! Questions? Contact Megan Rugg at [email protected] or 501-664-3600.

Women of the church, join the PHUMC United Women in Faith (formerly United Methodist Women) for a church-wide unit meeting in Wesley Hall on Monday, January 8 at 6:30PM. We will have a light dinner and a program giving the background of history and missions of the UWF. RSVP by calling the church office at 501-664-3600 or by going to phumc.com/uwf. Childcare will be provided.

MISSIONS

Habitat Apostle's Build

This past month we completed construction and blessed the Habitat Apostle's Build House for our homeowners.

This was a great effort of many United Methodist churches in Little Rock. We'd like to thank all of our volunteers who have helped contribute. Stay on the lookout for our next PHUMC Habitat for Humanity we are building in 2024!

AFGHAN FAMILY UPDATE

Baptist Hospital hired Mohammad in the environmental services department shortly after our Afghan family moved to Little Rock. Though Mohammad could speak no English, it did not prevent him from working there. The staff in his department have been so kind and accepting of Mohammed and they have grown to love him. In fact, this picture shows Mohammad receiving the employee of the month award recently...
