WHAT'S HAPPENING AT PHUMC?

You might have seen our new kneelers at the Raney Revival. Church member Mark Wilson, of Cliffdale Cottage Designs, donated his time to make these for us! You may recognize the wood, it was part of the wall in the choir room that had been torn down. Thank you so much Mark for all of your hard work into giving this beautiful pattern new life!

Session two of Wednesday nights has officially begun! We start serving meals for $10/adult at 5:00PM. We have classes and programming for all ages beginning at 6:00PM including Dr. Robbins' Bible Study, small groups, book studies, Children's activities, Youth Bible study, Midyouth, and more!

Please note this week that dinner and Dr. Robbins' Bible Study will be in the Great Hall. Midyouth will be in the Youth Area.

We hope you join us for this great time of learning and fellowship! Questions? Learn more below!

It's not too late to fill out the survey! Our newly-created office of Inclusivity, Accessibility, and Belonging needs everyone to share their insight and input, whether or not they require particular assistance from the church. We are seeking to better understand what we already do well, what we could improve, and what we are missing in order to be a congregation that is truly inclusive and accessible for all God's children. Please take a few minutes to fill out our survey by clicking the link below, visiting phumc.com/IAB, or picking up a paper copy from the Welcome Desk.

We had so much fun singing in worship this past Sunday! If your child would like to be a part of the fun, Children’s Choir begins a new session this Sunday, October 4! We will start working toward one of our favorite traditions of the year — Hanging of the Greens on November 29. This beautiful service is child-led, and our children have a special role in helping our church welcome the Advent season.

Children’s Choir meets Sundays from 4:00–5:00 PM, and we’d love to have more children join us to sing, play, and serve!

Join the Young Adult Ministry on the first Tuesday of the month for a time of community at various locations around Little Rock. This month, we'll be hosting a mahjong night in the Youth Lounge here at the church. All are welcome whether you're experienced or a beginner player. Bring your dinner and a friendly competitive spirit for this month's event!

Join the PHMen's Ministry at the new Putt Chip Chill on October 8th from 4:30-7:30PM for an evening of fellowship. Put your putting skills to the test or just come for a drink and some camaraderie! No need to RSVP, just come and bring a friend!

Join us on October 11th in the Gym from 10:00-11:00am as we pack care bags for those in need in our community! If you don't have a Sunday School class, this is a great opportunity for you to meet other members of our church and make connections! We are also looking for Sunday School classes, groups, or individuals to contribute $250 to help cover the purchase of the supplies needed for care bags.

To provide financial support for this program or learn more, contact Rev. Katye Chambers at kchambers@phumc.com or 501-664-3600.

Join the United Women in Faith for our next church-wide unit meeting in the Parlor on Sunday, October 11 at 12:00pm. If you would like lunch, the cost is $10. RSVP by going to phumc.com/uwf, by calling the church office at 501-664-3600, or by signing the book at the Welcome Desk.

October 15th is Pregnancy and Infancy Loss Remembrance Day. We know that a great many people are affected by the heartbreak of pregnancy and infant loss, and that the grief from this is complex and isolating. On October 15th, our chapel will be open from 7-9AM, 11AM-1PM, and 4-6PM for those that want to come pray. We will have a votive station where individuals can light a candle for their child(ren) as well as a prayer card with guided prayers and resources. We hope all will be in prayer for those grieving this day.

The PHUMC Green Team is officially a part of the City of Little Rock's Adopt-A-Street program, which provides an opportunity for civic engagement in removing litter to keep our city beautiful. We have “adopted” the section of Lee Street from Van Buren to Beechwood.

Join the Green Team on Saturday, October 24th for our first official cleanup day! We'll meet at Entrance 1 at 9AM and all supplies will be provided.

Questions? Contact Rev. Katye Chambers at kchambers@phumc.com.

This year Trunk or Treat will be October 25 from 3-5pm in the Lower Parking Deck. This is a great opportunity to come together as a congregation and to serve our community.

These are four ways to get involved:

  • We are currently looking for Sunday School classes, small groups, and individuals to host a trunk or booth. Go to phumc.com/trunks to sign up to host a trunk or a booth.
  • This year, we are planning on expanding our giveaways to more than just candy. We are asking for monetary donations only so that we can provide candy, snacks, and small toys for each trunk. Just go to phumc.com/halloween or write a check with Trunk or Treat in the memo line.
  • Volunteer to be a greeter and a friendly face. You can sign up at phumc.com/tortvolunteer.
  • Come and bring a friend or two with you! Hope to see you there!

Join us at noon in the Great Hall on Sunday, November 8th for a veterans celebration! This free luncheon is open to all veterans, or family members of veterans! Let us know you’re coming by calling the church office at 501-664-3600 or signing up online at phumc.com/veterans-lunch.

Are you or a loved one a veteran that would like to be honored? Let us know by calling the church office at 501-664-3600 or going to phumc.com/veteran.

If you have any questions, contact Bev Villines at bvillines@phumc.com.

We're sending another Medical team to Guatemala this coming January, and we'd love for you to be part of it. We are still looking for a Dentist and a Pharmacist as well as willing helpers: people ready to build relationships, lend a hand wherever it's needed, and share in the work of loving our neighbors.

If you're interested, contact Rev. Katye Chambers at kchambers@phumc.com.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Experience a powerful journey through American music with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra! They will be presenting Opening Night: America 250. The program opens with Florence Price’s Ethiopia’s Shadow in America, followed by Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue, featuring acclaimed pianist Stewart Goodyear. The evening concludes with Aaron Copland’s sweeping Symphony No. 3, conducted by Geoffrey Robson. Together, these works celebrate the richness, diversity, and distinctly American spirit of orchestral music. You can attend either October 3rd at 7:30PM or October 4th at 3:00PM. Kids 18 and under get in free.
