A Note from Lisa A. Miller, CNM, JD

It’s November, and in addition to wishing all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving, I’m pleased to share another issue of Birth News You Can Use. The October live webinars were a resounding success, and I’m excited to share some news about on-demand webinars with you. I also have a very insightful open-access review of EFM research and a series of conversations with Dr. Lexi, one of my favorite MFMs. As we move into the holiday season, I want all of you to know how grateful I am for the work you do every day and how happy it makes me to connect with you through this newsletter.

What I’m Reading

Eenkhoorn and colleagues have published a systematic review of FHR patterns and neonatal outcomes, revealing once again that computerized analysis alone does not reduce the rate of perinatal mortality or morbidity. They present both a detailed review of studies and a roadmap for future development of systems that combine computerized analysis with machine learning and evaluation of trending to yield improved analysis of FHR tracings and individualization of care.

The podcast episodes debuted on October 16th; you can listen on both Apple and Spotify, or watch the video version on YouTube.

Part 3 will arrive in December, so check out the first two parts below and stay tuned for more in the next newsletter!
