June has always been my favorite month of the year. When I was younger, it was probably because that’s when school let out or because it was my birthday month. Maybe it was because the days were the longest in June or maybe it was because it was finally warm. As I got older, the reasons changed, but my feelings didn’t.

This year I especially welcomed June because I believed it could not be any worse than our spring had been in Fishers. Every year, our leagues expect rainouts, thunderstorms and heat as reasons that a game or two or sometimes three gets postponed, rescheduled or cancelled, but this year fell into a special category. It didn’t seem like we could catch a break. The fields officially opened on March 23 rd and without hesitation Mother Nature welcomed us with rain. March ended up being the rainiest March in the last 10 years. April was no better with some places in our community receiving more than 125% of the monthly average of precipitation. Even though May did have a handful of perfect days, it still was the 2 nd rainiest May in the last 10 years. We received 5 times as much rain in May this year than we did last year.

We are actively seeking new girls to join the Fishers Girls Travel Basketball program. Evaluations are August 12th/13th for 7th and 8th graders and 19th/20th for 4th, 5th and 6th grade. 3rd grad evaluations are in September and that date will be announced soon. If you live in an area slated to attend FHS and your daughter has an interest in playing basketball, we want her to play for the Tigers! Our goal is a fun and instructional experience along with learning the fundamentals of basketball.

The travel program is instructed and over seen by Coach Vail and the Girls Basketball Board. Games are played on the weekends at host High Schools and fieldhouses in the greater Indianapolis area. The cost for the season is around $300 - $350 with uniforms. Financial assistance is available upon request. Practices run twice a week. The season runs from September thru January. We welcome girls that play multi sports and work with their schedules. For more information, please contact:
