Summer Health Hacks For Your Family

For many families, summertime brings sun-filled days of active outdoor activities. Whether your summer-perfect setting is the beach, a lakefront campground or your backyard, make the most of the season with a few simple steps to prevent common summer injuries and illnesses. Read.

A Note From The Executive Director

While summer hasn’t “officially” started, multiple days of 90 degrees counts as an unofficial start of summer in Indiana. I hope everyone’s school year wrapped up well.

We know activities for kids don’t stop in the summer, it’s always a good reminder to take a deep breath as a family. Between school and all of the extracurricular activities, it can be hard to remember what life is like when you’re not carting the kids back and forth or sitting at a sports practice. Be sure to schedule family time. As huge proponents of free play, even something as simple as organizing a backyard tee ball game or neighborhood game of tag can be a lot of fun (and it requires no travel).

Meghan Kaplan - Pickleball

Congratulations to our April Dick's Sporting Goods Volunteer of the Month, Meghan Kaplan! Meghan has been key in planning and rolling out our pickleball league. She works with board members and coaches to ensure kids have a great experience, whether they are new or seasoned players. Her dedication, from creating teams to being on-site weekly, is invaluable. We are very grateful she and her husband Noah brought their professional pickleball experience to their passion of helping their community.

Justin Mack - Rugby

Our May Dick’s Sporting Goods Volunteer of the Month is a leader in the Mudsock Youth Rugby Community. His nominee said, “ rugby, unlike more traditional sports, is not a legacy sport where there are tons of adults with experience to coach or run youth leagues. This is why we are so fortunate to have awesome people like Justin Mack tirelessly working to create these opportunities for our kids. Justin is the youth President and has helped rugby in Fishers grow exponentially. This league could not run without Justin, and we are grateful for all he does.”
