Burg Simpson Files Case
Against Xcel Energy and Comcast
|
|
A fatal gas explosion occurred in November of 2018 when workers drilling underground pathways to install cable struck buried natural gas lines at Heather Gardens, an adult living community in east suburban Denver. The deadly blast killed an 82-year-old woman and leveled multiple homes.
The Heather Gardens Homeowners Association contracted with Comcast to install buried internet cable for the residents of the community. During the installation, a subcontractor hired by Comcast hit three gas lines in the weeks leading up to the explosion. Subsequently, a fourth gas line was hit, resulting in the explosion.
During this time, Xcel Energy was aware that construction crews continued to hit its gas lines but failed to halt the project. Xcel was also aware that every time a gas line is hit and gas escapes, there is a risk that an explosion can occur. Excel was notified of the gas leak after the fourth line was hit and well before the explosion, but they failed to shut off the gas supply and allowed the gas to build up for over two and a half hours.
Burg Simpson trial lawyers Michael S. Burg and Holly B. Kammerer represent the family of the deceased and recently filed a civil lawsuit against Xcel Energy and Comcast. Gas explosion cases require specific knowledge, experience, and expertise, and the Burg Simpson team is thoroughly familiar with the federal regulations, is conversant with engineering experts about probable causes, and has the internal resources to bring gas explosion cases to trial. The trial lawyers at Burg Simpson have successfully represented victims of gas explosions in Colorado and states throughout the U.S. for over 40 years.

Burg Simpson Supports the
Rocky Mountain Children's Law Center
|
The mission of the Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center (RMCLC) is to advocate for children and youth. The organization seeks to drive systemic reform and boldly challenge the status quo so that every young person who has experienced trauma or instability has the opportunity to thrive. But the RMCLC goes far beyond providing legal services, and they believe all areas of a child’s life are intertwined, and their work reflects this integration. The RMCLC works to ensure that trauma-affected children and youth have safe, permanent homes, appropriate education, and the resources to address unmet emotional and physical needs.
