FROM THE PRESIDENT AND CEO
Dear Friends,

Classrooms don’t look like this, but class is indeed in session! This has been an unforgettable and difficult year, but we made it. School began today and we’re ready. It has been months of studying best practices, following the science, preparing, sanitizing, planning, scheduling, coordinating, and fundraising. Our students are ready and eager to learn and our educators are prepared to teach. Thanks to many of you, each of our 51,000 children have been supplied a tablet, Internet and technical support. We have closed the digital divide and now it’s time to get back to work....school work that is. The past six months have shown that we must continue to take good care of ourselves and each other. The DPS Foundation is committed to taking care of our students, families and educators and we hope you are committed as well. We’re in this together. Let’s go!

Be well and stay inspired,
Pamela J. Moore

CONNECTED FUTURES ROLLS OUT
We want to give a special thank you to DTE Energy, the DTE Foundation, Quicken Loans Community Fund, the Skillman Foundation, General Motors, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and many others for enabling us to bridge the digital divide through the Connected Futures Initiative. This Initiative allows all 51,000 DPSCD students, who were enrolled during the Spring Membership Count (February 2020), to receive wireless tablets, six months of internet access, and technical support. A $23 million investment!
2020 DETROIT COLLEGE PROMISE SCHOLARS SHINE
Not even a global pandemic could stifle the joy of our 2020 Detroit College Promise Scholars’ celebration for 36 students planning the next phase of their education. Graduates have been accepted to local schools and across the country. The virtual event featured Fox 2 Detroit (WJBK) news anchor and DPS graduate, Josh Landon. Landon shared his high school and peer pressure experiences, and referenced the coaches and mentors who put him back on track to shape his future. Scholarships ranged from $1,000 to $13,500 from generous individuals and organization donors.
DCP SCHOLAR UPDATE
Daniel Ramos is a 2018 graduate of Western International High School and also a Roy and Maureen Roberts Scholarship recipient. Currently a University of Michigan - Ann Arbor Junior, Ramos is being mentored by Peter Jebson, a Project Leader at Boston Consulting Group. Jebson became a mentor and DCP donor when he moved to Detroit and learned about the mission of the Foundation.

Ramos and Jebson are in regular communication. “Whether it is advice on courses, internships or overall life advice, he is only a phone call away. I am grateful to the Detroit Public Schools Foundation for this mentorship program.”

Jebson says the mentorship with Ramos has surprised him, “I’m excited to see where Daniel's unbelievable pace of growth and achievement takes him next."
