Family Promise Of Southern Ocean County
Eviction & Housing
January 2021
Greetings!

January is an exciting month. The first of the new year it's full of new plans and goals, reaching to be the best we can be, and seeing what and where we can do better in our lives. It's an exciting time, but for many in our community, the new year presents scary questions. Do they have enough money to pay for dinner? Will they be able to find a new job? What happens if they come home to an eviction notice? What will happen with the eviction moratorium?

These are the questions that so many families in Ocean County have to ask themselves every day, including the families of our essential workers. In 2020, we were able to provide aid to over 89 families to keep their homes, catch up on rent, and find affordable housing through our Anchors to Stay Prevention Program. This year, with the end of the eviction moratorium on the horizon, more families are in need of our programs than ever before, and we can't provide that aid without your help.

Together, we can end family homelessness. Because every child deserves a home.

You can’t solve one problem without solving all the problems. This is a maxim in social services, and rightly so. A mom struggling with poverty and homelessness benefits from employment. But she needs to secure transportation, childcare, and stable housing. This same principle can be applied to those providing the solutions: You can’t address systemic issues, without engaging all the stakeholders.
Family Promise of Southern Ocean County has four main programs to aid families in our area, one of which is the Anchors to Stay Prevention Program. Launched this past August, this program provides financial aid on rent, mortgage, or security deposit payments for eligible families across Ocean County.
With the new year, there have been updates and changes to the federal and New Jersey state eviction moratoriums. These changes have been implemented to help keep people safe, afloat, and in their homes during COVID-19. The below information applies to tenants of rental homes, rental apartments, hotels, and/or motels.
Podcast: Evicted During the Pandemic
For many years now, we have seen a housing and eviction crisis occurring, not just in Ocean County, but across the country. Check out this episode of The Daily to learn more about the story of Yolanda Jackson, a single mother of two, who was evicted during the pandemic.
