HABA DIRECTOR AT LARGE & CE COMMITTEE CHAIR - Laura Jaworski, DVM
|
|
Location: Originally from Boxborough, Massachusetts
Involvement with HABA: I am involved with HABA to raise awareness of the Human Animal Bond and the different perspectives it encompasses, and to empower people to further explore their own unique bond with animals.
Hobbies: falconry and raptor orthopedics
Family members: I live in New York with my husband James, standard poodle Leo and Eurasian eagle owl Lazarus
About myself: I grew up in Massachusetts and received my Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. I graduated from Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. I work predominantly with cats and dogs in both the emergency and wellness setting and am Human Animal Bond certified. In my spare time, I treat a variety of wildlife with special emphasis on raptors. I am a falconer and enjoy training birds of prey as well as participating in raptor education programs for the general public.
Most memorable Human Animal Bond experience: My first time observing a falconer work his falcon and dog in the field. It was amazing watching 3 species - man, bird and dog -converge on a single task, communicating and working together seamlessly as a team in a feat that could happen only as a result of a deep understanding of each of their natural strengths, communication styles, and bond they shared with each other.

Meet Paige Gabrielson. She is currently attending Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biochemical Sciences pursing my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree.
She grew up on a hobby farm in Alexandria, Minnesota with her parents Larry and Kristin Gabrielson and brother James.
Paige has always had a passion for animals and the desire to become a veterinarian. She joined 4-H at a young age and was involved in every aspect to learn and research all that I could. She then took what she had learned and shared it with others by providing free riding lessons, earning five grants to enhance the program and facilities, as well as started a youth horse camp.
Paige is very active in her university, church, and community. she enjoys spending time with her various horses, singing, playing viola, sports and is determined to become an equine veterinarian, become certified in animal chiropractic and potentially pursue a specialization.
In 2019, Paige graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, with Chemistry and Music Minors.
Congratulations Paige! We are excited to experience your passion for the human animal bond and watch you grow in your career as a veterinarian.

HABA Launches Monthly Facebook Live Events

HABA has been planning many great things for its membership and the public to advocate and educate the importance of the human animal bond.
The human animal bond is a two way street as we know, so it is important to also remember depend on us as much as we depend on them. Providing everything they need to keep them healthy is part of this. Our Facebook Live kickoff was pertaining to just that. Providing cats the necessary hunting opportunity for enrichment is discussed between Steve Dale, CABC, HABA Board Member and Dr. Liz Bales, owner of Doc & Phoebes. Hear the great information they have to share and stay tuned for HABA's next Facebook Live event on April 21, 2021 at 8pm ET which will be a discussion about bats and their importance to all of us with Steve Dale, CABC and Dr. Patrick Flynn.
