Involvement with HABA: I Ever since I was a child, the human animal bond has had a huge positive impact on my life and driven much of what I’ve decided to do with my life. I believe that the bond is only becoming more important in society as the role of the pet and our connection with animals evolves, and I am involved with HABA so that I can help to promote and advance the human animal bond as an integral part of a successful society.

Hobbies: Running (with my dog, Jack), bird-watching, hiking and travel.

Family members: Husband: Brandon; Son: Anders; Daughter: Harper; Dogs: Jack and Bryan; Cats: Cascade and Teton; Horse: Goose

About myself: I’m a pacific NW native, lover of nature and animals, looking to create positive impact in the world for people, animals and the environment. I grew up on a cattle ranch and was lucky enough to have pets of all kinds while growing up, ranging from dogs and cats to chickens and cows. I get excited to get out of bed each day to do my work of helping veterinary professionals thrive. I love helping my children learn about being responsible pet owners and stewards of the earth. I love travel, ethnic food, breathing in the forest air and listening to the ocean. I’ve run three marathons (one with Laird, our board president!) and I speak Spanish.

Most memorable Human Animal Bond experience: Riding horses as a child, going off on trail ride adventures and having complete trust in my horse as a partner and friend as we would stop and eat lunch or take a break under a tree and just “be” together, perfectly content.

During every challenging time in my life, I can vividly feel the fur of my dog or cat at the time, laying next to me, comforting me, and providing me with the love that I needed to get through.

Anything else you would like to share? I have a strong belief that so many challenges in society could be avoided or solved through connection. When people feel connected to their community, the way they conduct their own life changes, the way they treat others changes, the way they impact the world changes for the positive. In today’s world, human connection can be challenging, but connection with animals can provide many of the same outcomes – pets make people better. I also believe in our responsibility as a species to protect those whom we can – people can make a better world for pets.
