We strive to ensure all voices are heard within the human-animal bond community.  Human-animal interactions provide opportunities for motivation, education, and recreation while enhancing the quality of life for both humans and animals.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT
HABA BOARD OF DIRECTORS & Student Committee Lead -
Kim Pope-Robinson, DVM, CCFP
Location: Ellicott City, Maryland

Involvement with HABA: I wanted to be a part of a group of individuals who believe in the value of the human animal bond and who work to elevate the many aspects of it. I recognize the impact the human animal bond has on society and was looking for a way to help others connect with and share the many areas of it.

Hobbies: Gardening, home remodeling, running/exercise, traveling, exploring in our '99 TJ Jeep, and hiking.

Family members: Husband of 20 years - Jeff, Dempsey the Frenchie, 2 tuxedo cats - Graciebird and Rainier, and Maui the Greater Sulfur Cockatoo

About myself: Dr. Kimberly Pope-Robinson has served in the veterinary field for over 20 years. After graduating from UC Davis, she practiced in both the large and small animal sectors. In 2007 she transitioned from running a single veterinary practice to managing multiple veterinary hospitals for a large corporate practice. Finally leading her into the pharmaceutical sector as a Regional Strategic Veterinarian where she primarily worked with specialists and their teams. These experiences throughout her career have provided Dr. Pope with a unique exposure to understanding the stresses involved with maintaining a career in veterinary medicine. Finding that path to each individual’s authentic sustainable career has become her passion. She founded 1 Life Connected in 2015 and her vision in starting 1Lifecc was to help Connect Careers with Life’s Passion. She does this through one on one support, providing customized team support, author to “The Unspoken Life” and supplemental coloring book, and as a dynamic international speaker to both small and large audiences. She welcomes any inquires on how she can help us all connect our careers with our life’s passion. For in the end, Dr. Pope truly believes that we are all 1 Life Connected.

Most memorable Human Animal Bond experience:  As I shared in my book “The Unspoken Life” the unspoken connection in which I had with my horse “Toby” and Cat “Sanjay”, saved my life.

Back in 2002, when Alexandra Horowitz was working toward her PhD at the University of California at San Diego, she believed that dogs were a worthy thing to study. But her dissertation committee, which favored apes and monkeys, needed convincing.

“They were primate people,” she said. “They all studied nonhuman primates or human primates, and that’s where it was thought that the interesting cognitive work was going to happen. Trying to show them that there would be something interesting with dogs — that was a challenge.”
