Dear Friends:

We are excited to give you a glimpse into all of the fantastic things we’ve been up to over the last month. First, our annual Golden Angels Gala was a resounding success, and we thank you for being a part of it. The event, which took place on April 22 at Soho Studios in Wynwood, raised $4.6 million to benefit Jackson Health System – the most ever raised in the Foundation’s history. We could not have done it without the generous support of our Golden Angels, sponsors, and donors, who came together to make this year’s gala one to remember.

Next, we are shining a light on Mother’s Day – the day the nation recognizes the amazing women who raised us. Throughout our lives, our mother figures have cheered us on, applauded us, and swelled with pride at every achievement. Happy Mother’s Day to all of our moms, stepmoms, bonus moms, and abuelas! We owe you an enormous debt of gratitude for all that you do.

In addition, we are proud to announce that our 2021 Give Miami Day campaign was recognized with a national MUSE Creative Award for “Best Social Media Campaign.” Thank you to everyone who contributed to our cause. We're looking forward to this year's Give Miami Day in November.

Finally, we are thankful for our Jackson nurses every day, especially today, May 6, National Nurses Day. Nursing is more than a job. Nursing is more than a job. It’s a calling that tugs at the heart and propels you to help others, despite the long hours, inherent risks, and difficult moments. To celebrate this incredible group of people who keep us healthy every day, we ask you to join us on Nurses Day by donating to the Foundation in their honor. Your donation helps fund the tools and programs our nurses use every day to provide our community with the best and most compassionate health care. We truly appreciate your support.

All the best,

Jackson Health Foundation hosted its annual Golden Angels Gala on April 22 at Soho Studios in Wynwood. The gala celebrated Jackson Health System’s army of caregivers. It also honored the Golden Angel Society, the Foundation’s premier giving group, whose members play a vital role in advancing Jackson’s mission through their philanthropic efforts.

The sold-out event brought more than 700 philanthropists and community leaders together for a spectacular evening of giving. During the celebration, $4.6 million was raised. This year’s festivities were again hosted by celebrity emcee Laurie Jennings, with Ana VeigaMilton, chair of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, and her husband, Cecil, serving as the gala co-chairs.

The event also honored eight “Legends of Jackson” doctors who have dedicated their time and talent to the health system for decades. The honorees were Dr. Eduardo Bancalari, neonatology, Holtz Children’s Hospital; Dr. Patricia “Patty” Byers, trauma surgery/critical care medicine, Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial; Dr. G. Patricia “Patti” Cantwell, pediatric critical care, Holtz Children’s Hospital; Sir Dr. Gaetano Ciancio, transplant surgery, Miami Transplant Institute; Dr. Barth Green, neurosurgery, Jackson Memorial Hospital, founder, The Miami Project To Cure Paralysis; Dr. Roberto Heros, neurosurgery, Jackson Memorial Hospital; Dr. Alan Livingstone, surgery, Jackson Memorial Hospital; and Dr. Tomas Salerno, cardiothoracic surgery, Jackson Memorial Hospital.

A chance drawing for a 2022 Audi Q5, donated by Ken Gorin and THE COLLECTION, was a highlight of the gala. Felipe Fons, a longtime donor, and member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors was the lucky winner. Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits, the celebration’s Underwriting Sponsor, donated the wine and spirits for the evening. Sponsor Spotlight

West Coast University

We could not fulfill our mission of helping Jackson Health System make miracles daily without the help of sponsors like West Coast University (WCU). WCU has supported Jackson Health Foundation for many years, including through the pandemic and, most recently, by sponsoring the registration area at our 2022 Golden Angels Gala. Attendees had the opportunity to “Light Up Jackson” by donating to support one of the top public healthcare systems in the nation. Throughout the evening, donors received light-up balloons delivered to their tables as a small token of the Foundation’s appreciation for their help in enhancing Jackson and expanding its services. West Coast University stepped up in a big way and offered a donation match for funds raised during this portion of the event. We truly appreciate their support!

Miracle Story

The Perfect Match: South Florida Teacher’s Life Saved by Living Donor

Not long ago, getting a new heart, liver, or lung would have been an impossible dream. Today, the Miami Transplant Institute (MTI) is making miracles happen for patients of all ages, like Tyra Starnes. Starnes was shocked when her primary care doctor diagnosed her with chronic kidney disease during a routine annual exam. Up until that point, the 25-year-old West Palm Beach elementary school teacher felt healthy. However, as her kidneys continued to deteriorate, Starnes started feeling the effects of the disease. Click here to read more about her courageous story of resilience and recovery.

In April, Jackson Health Foundation won a silver MUSE Creative Award for its 2021 Give Miami Day social media campaign. One of the nation's biggest 24-hour annual giving events, Give Miami Day celebrates hundreds of nonprofits throughout our Miami-Dade community and gives supporters the opportunity to maximize their giving with matching gifts. As the fundraising arm of Jackson Health System, the Foundation participated in last year’s Give Miami Day and raised more than $130,000. The donations were primarily driven by social media and celebrity supporters like Ana Navarro and Tico Torres of Bon Jovi. The campaign featured hourly social media posts that highlighted stories showcasing how Jackson makes miracles happen daily. We can't wait for this year's Give Miami Day! Click here to learn more.
