The Right Fit
A question we’ve been hearing a lot lately is “What size mask am I?” It’s a logical question. Everything we put on our bodies—from shoes to wetsuits—come in sizes. But size can be a bit complicated in the scuba business. Not only do masks not come in “sizes,” a lot of gear needs to fit just right to keep you safe and comfortable underwater.

Here is what you need to know:

Masks
Masks don’t come in traditional sizes. The right mask for you is the one that fits. Every manufacture has their own methods and materials to try and make their masks as comfortable as possible. It’s impossible to know what mask will fit you until you try a few on. Our staff is great at fitting masks. We know the subtle nuances to look for to avoid leaking (or worse, bruising) when you’re underwater.

New Course Available only at One World!
We are pleased to introduce a new course for divers who want to improve their open water skills and become safer and more prepared divers.

Introducing: Basic Open Water Level 2

What is this class: A Basic Open Water certificate teaches you the basics of how to dive and stay alive underwater. Level 2 will give you the skills to enjoy yourself, navigate a reef, and feel more confident and comfortable in the water.

Top 3 reasons to take this class:
1.)     Go deeper—the deep diver specialty is included in this course so you can go deeper than 60 feet.
2.)     Navigate your underwater world—gain navigation skills necessary to navigate a reef and find your way back to the boat
3.)     Perfect your buoyancy—buoyancy control not only makes diving more fun, but it keeps divers safer. This is the #1 skill most divers need to improve.

Cost: $199.95

Where to go Next: Cozumel
Cozumel is one of our favorite dive destinations! We’ve taken our girls trip, the SCUBA Bash, and even a few Boy Scout troops to the gem of Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula. Here are some of our top reasons why we keep going back:

  • Cozumel is easy. The flight is relatively short, hotels and resorts are numerous and affordable, and dive packages are available for both new and experienced divers.

  • It’s an inexpensive destination. Flights to Cozumel are plentiful on a lot of well known airlines. Between sales, airline miles, and the relatively short distance, it’s a very affordable getaway. Plus, hotels offer great values for groups and families.

  • The Diving is fantastic. From fun drift dives, to colorful night dives and plentiful critters (both big and small), the diving is consistently impressive in Cozumel.

  • It’s fun for families, couples and solo travelers alike. There’s great shopping, wonderful sea food, relaxing beaches, gorgeous views and plenty of atmosphere for every vacationing style.

  • Homemade guac and margaritas…need we say more?

If you’re trying to pick a destination for your next trip, we highly recommend Cozumel. Email our travel specialists to get help planning your next dream vacation!
From the Repair Department
GROSSEST THINGS WE’VE SEEN

We’ve seen some gross things in repair over the years. Filters in your regulator catch a lot of grime that comes out of your mouth. From half chewed food, plaque off your teeth, and all germs and bacteria that live in your mouth.

If you spit in your mask for defog, these same gross particles end up in your mask. One of the grossest things we’ve seen in the repair department is a mask with black mold. Turns out, fungi can grow in your spit if you spit to defog your mask. That could easily end up in your eye or sinuses on your next dive.

We aren’t retiring early off of defog sales. Do yourself a favor and grab a bottle of defog before your next dive trip. The $8 is money well spent compared to pink eye on your next vacation.
Tip of the Month
We always pack a baggie of mints for every trip. They are great for soothing an upset stomach, calming pre-dive jitters or rinsing the salty taste out of your mouth after a dive!
Pool
Whether you have 10 dives logged or 1,000, all divers should jump in the water to refresh and review the skills from the Open Water certification. We offer a couple of ways to review depending on your experience:

POOL NIGHT ~ Once a month, we open our pool for divers to come in after hours and splash around. This is a self guided review (there won't be an instructor on duty) but gives you a chance to set up your gear, blow bubbles, and keep things fresh between trips. If you can't make it to Pool Night, you can call us to book a Pool Workout whenever our pool is available.

The pool will be available from 6:00-9:00 pm on the following nights:

  • June 18th
  • August 16th
  • September 27th

SCUBA REFRESHERS ~ If it’s been longer than 2 years since your last dive, then you’ll need a SCUBA REFRESHER. In this four hour class, instructors will share practical tips from their personal experience of diving and jump in the water with you to make sure you are comfortable setting up your gear, controlling your buoyancy and review your emergency skills. The class is offered three times each month, and is often required by a resort if you haven't been diving in a year. If you have been out of the water for longer than 10 years, you will need to schedule this class privately.

Call the shop at 303-220-8282 for more information or click here for information on our upcoming SCUBA Refresher courses.
