Tuition Assistance Benefit Changes Set For Autumn 2025

If you are an Ohio State University employee eligible for tuition assistance, please read the message below from the university about the changes to tuition benefits beginning in the Autumn Semester of 2025. This new policy does apply to many of our MS and PhD students currently enrolled who are university/med center employees. If you have any questions regarding more specifics of this change in policy, please contact hrconnection@osu.edu.

Tuition assistance benefit changes

Tuition assistance benefits help with the cost of pursuing education at Ohio State for eligible employees wanting to advance their development and careers. Investing in our workforce in this way benefits both you and the organization. To ensure the university can continue to sustain this valuable benefit, Ohio State will update the Faculty and Staff Tuition Assistance Plan effective with the start of the 2025 autumn semester. Beginning August 26, 2025, if you leave Ohio State employment, the plan will require repayment of employee tuition assistance received within the 12 months before your departure. This requirement does not extend to dependent tuition assistance.

Additionally, the plan will no longer pay fee adjustments due to withdrawing from a course. Sometimes referred to as “one-time forgiveness,” this provision will no longer apply. This means you must remain enrolled for the entire academic term for any course for which you received tuition assistance benefits to retain that benefit. If you withdraw after the benefit has been applied, you will be responsible for any fees associated with that withdrawal.

Ohio State is providing this notice in advance of the 2025 effective date to help you plan appropriately. Further details about the tuition assistance changes, as well as reminders to individuals who are receiving the benefit, will be provided throughout the coming months prior to implementation. GradSch 8000: Responsible Conduct of Research Course Offered SP25

Please see the attached flyer for the autumn offering of Grad School 8000: Responsible Conduct of Research (#3724). This course is a joint offering from the Graduate School and the Office of Research and is designed to satisfy National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation (NSF) requirements for training in the responsible and ethical conduct of research (RCR). The course seeks to provide a practical overview of the rules, regulations, and professional practices that define the responsible conduct of research. This in-person 1 credit hour class will be held on Wednesdays in the Research Commons (18th Ave Library) from 10:00-10:55 and will feature facilitated discussions from experts across campus.

Please note: MS and PhD students are still required to take the HRS offering of Responsible Conduct of Research - HTHRHSC 6883 (MS) and HTHRHSC 7883 (PhD). GradSch 8000 is another option and can count as elective credit.

HRS MS and PhD Applications Under Review

The MS and PhD programs are currently reviewing applications for 2025 matriculation, with interviews taking place this week and next for the PhD applicants.

The MS program continues to grow and develop its new offering of the online program, and took on 6 new students (both in person and online) this semester. The program has a total of 17 students currently enrolled, will be admitting one more student for Spring 2025, and has a handful of applications already submitted for future semesters. We look forward to welcoming new students.

The PhD program has another busy review season with 16 total applications submitted this application cycle. The program has a total of 34 students currently enrolled. Six of those students are actively pursuing the dual-degree program and taking both clinical and PhD coursework. This is our biggest PhD program size to date!

If you are a student in the MS program and are interested in learning more about the application process, requirements, and timeline for the PhD program, please contact Ashley McCabe.

PhD Students: Schedule Your Appointment with Dr. Heathcock

PhD Students - if you have not yet scheduled your one-on-one meeting with Dr. Heathcock, please do so as soon as possible. This includes dual-degree students still enrolled in their clinical programs.

You can schedule here using the Bookings link.

PhD Curriculum and University of Delaware Visit

Dr. Heathcock visited the University of Delaware's PhD program in Biomechanics and Movement Science. She attended PT grand rounds and met with Dr. Sam Lee, PhD Director, as well as faculty in the program and current students.

This visit was intentional so that we can gather more data on how to best improve the HRS PhD program and determine the best course of action for suggested changes from our PhD Curriculum Task Force from last spring. More news to come!
