From Pastor Rob

If you worship at Hillside Church or watch our services on YouTube or Facebook, you are reading this in August, 2026, and you know we’re in the middle of a series of sermons from 1 Peter. This will run through the rest of August. After that, we will turn our attention to some prophetic moments in the Old Testament. We’ll hear from Deborah, King Saul (who was briefly filled with God’s prophetic spirit), Gad, Obadiah, Micaiah, Huldah, and Oded. If these are unfamiliar names, that’s the point. We know about Elijah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel, and other “big names” among the prophets. In the Bible, God say things we need to hear. Often the message is embedded in familiar stories, but just as often, God speaks his word through people in the Bible we might not know as well.

Summer Slim Down Challenge

Let's lose mortgage weight!

Help Hillside get financially healthy by losing some mortgage "pounds". Our goal is to get our mortgage under $200,000 by Labor Day (~$25,000). A reduced mortgage means more resources for our mission to follow Jesus, love others and share hope!

Prayerfully consider making a donation over and above your regular offering and shrink our mortgage. Skip the Starbucks and give toward the mortgage! Retirees, you can donate directly from your IRA tax-free using a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). A little or a lot, God will bless the gift and the giver!

If we meet our goal of $25,000 by September 7th, matching funds will be released - that's $50,000 towards our mortgage! Contribute toward the challenge in-person or online - designate your donation as "Mortgage"..

The Students are Coming! The Students are Coming!

Just a friendly reminder that classes start at UNC on Monday, August 17. Once again, we are renting 75 parking spaces to students for this academic year. So, don't be alarmed if the quiet, summer parking lot starts slowly filling up again over the next couple of weeks.

Teamwork Makes the Church Work!

An update from your Deacons:

Hillside's finances continue to be stable although our monthly receipts are running about 7% short of our budget. A big thank you to our regular Hillside givers! Here's some of what we've been spending the money on.

In February, we replaced one more of our aging HVAC units. Located on the roof, the unit services the office and conference room and we spent just under $30,000. This included hiring a crane! This is the 3rd HVAC unit we have replaced. We also had to repair 2 of our older units for $2930.

To update the appearance of our public spaces, we recently purchased new furniture for the patio window lounge area for less than $2000.

A tree service is at work this week to trim overgrowth along the perimeter of the building, as well as cutting up 2 pine trees knocked down from recent storms. The estimate for this is $2750.

Please contact the Deacons if you have any comments or questions.

June Numbers

More details on the amounts in the Financial Snapshot are in the June 2026 Financial Statement. Hard copies are on the back table in the Worship Center.
