Dana Lynn Brower

70, of Chapel Hill passed away on Thursday, July 18th, 2024.

Dana was born on July 26th, 1953, in Saginaw, MI to the late Darel and Geraldine Frappert Brower. Drawing and painting were activities she enjoyed from an early age. Later her artistic eye inspired her as she took photographs of nature, especially of flowers. She often used her photographs to decorate cards which she sent to friends for their birthdays or when they needed encouragement. She also taught herself to play the piano at age 9 and continued to enjoy classical music all her life.

Dana moved to Chapel Hill in 1979. She volunteered many hours at UNC Hospitals and also helped with the children at Victory Village daycare. She traveled places in town using EZ Rider to help her keep appointments and to make visits to friends in care facilities.

Dana had many challenges during her life. Her devout fait sustained her and brought encouragement to her family and friends. In 1996 she was named "Disabled Citizen of the Year" by the Orange County Disability Awareness Council. This award highlighted the fact that despite Dana's own disabilities she focused her energies on helping others.

Dana is survived by her six brothers and sisters: Debby Wheeler (Terry), Lisa Fahey (Richard), Sabrina Elick (Jim), Darren Brower (Susan), Clay Brower (Debbie) and Keith Brower and by nieces and nephews.

Gratitude goes to the following people for their care of Dana through the years: Mrs. Sylvia Snipes, personal care aid for 25 years; Friends both in the community and those far away; friends at Hillside Church; the staff at Parkview Healthcare and Rehabilitation; the staff of Liberty Homecare and Hospice Services.

A memorial service will be held in the near future at Hillside Church, 201 Culbreth Rd, Chapel Hill at 2PM on August 24th. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the charity of one's choice.
