Help make a child's Christmas life-changing by contributing to the Appalachian Christmas Outreach. North Carolina Baptists on Mission plan to collect and distribute 16,000 backpacks to children in 5 Appalachian states, including North Carolina, and we can help. Our church goal is 30 backpacks .

We need the following items to fill those backpacks (especially needed items in RED ):
  • Pop-top Canned Goods--ravioli, tuna, beef stew, fruits, vegetables
  • NEW, non-breakable toys (no toy weapons, please!) such as small cars, balls, dolls, small stuffed animals, yo-yos, jump rope, sidewalk chalk, card games, Legos, etc. appropriate for children 4-7 y, 8-10y, 11-14y. For oldest age group (15-17) substitute items, like a flashlight, small thermos, light blanket, books, hunting and fishing magazines, jewelry, books, skin care products, hair accessories, etc.
  • NEW items of WARM Clothing such as winter hats, gloves, socks, underwear, scarves, etc.
  • Hygiene items--toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, washcloth, brush or comb, shampoo, and deodorant
  • Fresh Wrapped Candy--No chocolate, please, as it may melt.

We will be collecting items until October 26. Place them in the box in the hallway of the church.

Plan to come to the packing party on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26TH at 9:30AM in the lower level and be in worship on October 27th as we pray over the backpacks and for the children receiving them.
"Relaunch" Help Needed
coming_soon_stamp.jpg
We need your help! As we transition to becoming Hillside Church, volunteers are needed to make that happen. We are currently looking for people to join our Promotion Team. This group will plan the use of social media outlets to announce the new church name, mission statement, etc., and development of other publicity tools, as well as ideas for visitor outreach. If you want to join this team, please contact Tamara Baker .

We will also need to borrow items to use for decorations at our ‘Relaunch’ event. (Note that the Relaunch party will coincide with our annual church Christmas Lunch and the date has been moved to Sunday, December 15th .) A list of those items will be published in a few weeks. Please be in prayer about how God can use your gifts, skills, and talents to serve in this way.

"You are..." - from Pastor Rob
Magnified Bible Verse
In the movie "Overcomer," the main character is a high school runner who comes from a troubled family. She has to overcome her tough background as well as asthma in order to succeed both in cross country meets and in the relationships in her life that are so broken.
At one point, her high school principal suggests that she read Ephesians. She tells her she will discover who she is by reading Ephesians.
After seeing the movie, I decided to read Ephesians to discover who I am. Here's just a little bit of what I came up with:

  • I am loved (2:4).
  • I am saved (2:5, 8).
  • I am created for good works (2:10).
  • I have been drawn close to God by the blood of Christ (2:13).
  • I am a member of the household of God (2:19).
  • I am strengthened (3:16).
  • I am called (4:1)
That's just a taste, and that which is true of me is true of you too.  Read more
