Lay the Foundation

by Pastor Rob

This week I read this sentence: “[The man summoned by divine promise’s] understanding consists in the fact that in sympathy with the misery of being he anticipates the redeeming future of being and so lays the foundation of reconciliation, justification, and stability” (J. Moltmann, 1967, p.290). It’s a rather dense sentence in dense section of what is, in some ways, a wonderful book, Theology of Hope. To cut through the thicket of James Leitch’s translation Moltmann’s theological German, I homed in on the phrase “lays the foundation.”

Discipleship Series Begins This Sunday, February 9th

Please make plans to attend the first session of our new Discipleship Series starting this Sunday, February 9th. It will take place during our normal Sunday School hour, 9:45-10:45am. Please note Sunday School for adults will not be offered February 9th-February 23rd.

Sunday, February 9th Communion and Potluck

It is a Hillside tradition that when we celebrate Communion, we also generally share a meal. On Sunday, February 9th, we will be celebrating Communion. So, please plan to bring a covered dish to share after the worship service.

Please join us on March 1st from 3-5pm for our Savor the World youth fundraiser!

Join us Sunday, March 2nd, as we read the Book of Esther during the worship service. In keeping with Jewish tradition, we will "blot out" Haman's name—not by booing, but by shaking boxes of pasta!

To prepare, we will be collecting boxes of pasta on February 9 -March 2, with a collection box available on the front table. These will be passed out and used during the service on March 2. Afterward, they will be donated to the food pantry. We hope you’ll participate in this meaningful Purim reading!
