Follow Jesus, Love Others, Share Hope
"Happy Reading" From Pastor Rob
Turn off Netflix; not forever, but for now. Disney Plus. Hulu. HBO Max. Pluto TV. Plain, old cable or satellite. Turn it off, unplug, and sit down in a comfortable chair with a nice mug of cocoa and a good book. Losing yourself in a book is a lost art that our technology-crazed culture needs to rediscover.
I hope to help with this. To begin 2022, I am offering a daily book recommendation. I’ll do this Monday-Friday, throughout January. It will be posted on my blog, my Facebook and twitter pages, and I will post it on the Hillside church twitter page (daily) and Facebook page (each Friday).
Food Distribution Update - January 8 & 22
Cars at food distribution
Thank you so much for your continued support! The need for groceries in our community is still great as we enter into another year of the pandemic. We could not run the food pantry without volunteers, your donations and prayers! The Food Pantry continues to serve 75-100 clients each Saturday we are open.

We continue to partner with The Point Church of Chapel Hill, our Boy Scout Troop 45, The Chapel Hill/Carrboro Mothers Group and other community members. If you would like to volunteer, please use our online Community Sign Up Genius Form.
This month, our Food Pantry will be open January 8 & 22 at our usual time from 11am to 12pm. Bagging begins at 9am and distribution prep begins at 10:30am.

If you have any questions about volunteering, please contact Candy or Diane.
Christmas Cards
Please check the alphabetized boxes in the church hallway for Christmas cards addressed to you. The boxes will be available until January 26th.

Hillside is "Cool"
Light Bulb
Hillside Church has been awarded a certificate from the national Interfaith Power & Light organization designating our church body as a ‘Cool Congregation’. This is a result of our creation care program to reduce our energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. As a result of the replacement of the fluorescent lighting in the church with LED lighting, the church had a reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide of 11% for 2021. Greenhouse gas leads to global warming, hence the designation of a Cool Congregation. The next creation care program will be to replace the parking lot lights with LED lights. Hillside has received approval from the Town of Chapel Hill for this change.
Inclement Weather Reminder

In the event of bad weather, church activities may be cancelled. If cancelling is necessary, we will notify the church via email and Facebook. We will also contact WRAL-TV5 and WCHL 97.9/1360 AM radio to be included in their list of closings.
