Surrender

by Pastor Rob

“Surrender of the heart to God includes every possible way of obedience to God, because it means giving up one’s very being to God’s good pleasure.” This is from Jean-Pierre de Caussade, a French Jesuit priest who lived from the late 17th to the mid 18th century. This evokes thoughts of what Jesus said. “For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it” (Mark 8:35).

This Sunday, February 9th

We will celebrate Communion on Sunday, February 9th, but there will not be a potluck after the service this Sunday.

From the Deacons and the Pastor

Church family, we strongly encourage you to consider how you might contribute to the financial health of our congregation. Our recent financial audit confirmed that while we are stable and able to meet all our financial obligations, it is a fragile stability heavily dependent on a few donors - most of whom are over 50. We invite you to help us transition from "Fragile Stability" to more solid ground. During Lent, would you prayerfully consider making a donation over and above your regular offering, to pay down the principal on our mortgage? Consider taking the amount you spend daily on Starbucks or McDonalds and donate that to the mortgage. Perhaps, you can contribute as much as an extra month's worth of your usual tithe. The amount might seem small for a $330,000 mortgage, but we're asking you to give what you can. God will multiply our gifts. Paying down our mortgage debt ($2400/month) or even paying it off will free up our money for hiring a part time youth pastor, missions opportunities, or making capital improvements. Our mortgage rate and payment amount will increase in June. For the greatest impact, make your donation before the end of April. Please designate your contributions as "Mortgage" - thank you in advance.

When Paul addressed the church in Philippians 1:3 he said, "I thank my God every time I remember you." The church staff at Hillside Church understands how Paul felt. We are thankful for Hillside Church every day of the year, but we are especially grateful for your kindness and generosity expressed to us through your Christmas gift offering. Thank you so much!
