June 2020 Newsletter
Dear Reader,

When we source and vet inquiries to accept them as clients, we aim to find great ideas that - with a bit of help - can grow, flourish, and create new high-paying jobs in our region which desperately needs them. Such was the case with the acceptance of Aries Science & Technology. This startup boasts an experienced and capable founder with the content expertise to enable the company's success. We look forward to a symbiotic relationship for years to come.

Another example of synergy is the partnership between Ohio University and the City of Athens. This is celebrated within the Forbes Magazine feature linked below which highlights the community engagement that is critical to that successful partnership.

Also of note below are two workshops and several small business training opportunities. As we transition out of this pandemic and into the new normal, June presents a great month to take advantage of some professional development.

Keep innovating,
Stacy Strauss, Director

GLIDE Innovation Fund Invests in AEIOU Scientific
Congratulations to AEIOU Scientific, current Innovation Center tenant, on securing a $100,000 investment from the GLIDE Innovation Fund.

The company is commercializing a novel Cortical Bone Mechanics Testing Technology, developed at Ohio University, that can measure cortical bone stiffness with an accuracy of 99 percent. The Ohio University Innovation Center is proud to support AEIOU Scientific and applauds its state partners like Youngstown Business Incubator , JumpStart Inc. , and TechGROWTH Ohio for their additional support of this company. How Ohio University is Maintaining its Town-Gown Synergy
Check out this article by Stephen Gavazzi and Forbes that discusses Ohio University's relationship with the community that surrounds its campus. Gavazzi compares campus-community relationships to marriages, as high levels of effort from both parties results in harmony.

In 2018, Ohio University and Athens were recognized for their harmonious relationship when awarded the Abernathy Award by the International Town Gown Association. The university serves the surrounding community in many ways, and provides resources and programs such as the Ohio University Innovation Center and the Mayor’s Partnership for Progress. The COVID-19 pandemic has created setbacks for both the town and the university. However, Ohio University is still committed to economic development in the surrounding community. President Duane Nellis believes that these difficult times will not last forever.

"The pandemic has set us back in ways that are profound and yet are temporary. We have created a strong foundation between our campus and the Athens community that will allow us to come out of this both stronger and better,” said President Nellis.

The Innovation Center is proud to be a part of Ohio University's award-winning town-gown synergy. The IC is grateful for President Nellis's continual support and leadership through these unprecedented times.
