WEBINARS PROVE POPULAR WITH MEMBERS
SN-ICC continues to offer the Chapter's Monthly Membership Meetings as webinars because the community is still dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns and restrictions.
Webinar attendees are giving high ratings on the quality of the webinars, the presenters and the information featured during the webinars.
SN-ICC 2nd Vice President and Education Committee Chairman Michael Cunningham of the City of Las Vegas Department of Building & Safety has coordinated the webinars since the launch of webinar meetings in May. President James Gerren of the Clark County Department of Building and Fire Prevention begins the webinar meetings with a brief update about the Chapter.
Yvonne Nevarez-Goodson,executive director of the Nevada Commission on Ethics, was the guest speaker during the Chapter's webinar meeting on August 13.
Nevarez-Goodson explained the role of the Nevada Commission on Ethics, an 8-member commission appointed by the governor and Legislative Commission to interpret and enforce the provisions of the Ethics in Government Law set forth in NRS Chapter 281A ("Ethics Law").
She said the Ethics Law establishes the public policy and standards of conduct necessary to ensure the integrity and impartiality of government, free from conflicts of interest between public duties and private interests of state and local public officers and employees.
The Chapter hosted a webinar meeting on July 9 featuring guest speaker Sandi McCracken, the program manager at the International Accreditation Service, who presented information about the IAS's Pre-stressed/Pre-cast Fabricator Inspection Program.
IAS, a subsidiary of the International Code Council, is a non-profit, public-benefit corporation that has provided accreditation services since 1975.

On July 28-29, the Chapter joined with McKeon Door Co., to offer a 4-hour webinar class on Fire Door Systems Code Compliance.
The webinar on both days was presented by David L. Dodge, the vice president of business and code development for McKeon Door Co.
Dodge presented information about the fundamental guideline principles that govern the provisions of Chapters 3 through 10 and 30 in the current International Building Code (2000 through 2018 editions.)

2021 EDUCODE STILL SET FOR MARCH 1-5
 EduCode Director Al Ellis and the EduCode Committee are hard at work preparing for the 2021 EduCode International conference and expo scheduled for March 1-5 at the Orleans Hotel and Casino Conference Center.
The COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns and restrictions, and the impact on the economy and budgets, have been a major focus of planning for next year's event.
The committee is preparing for a mix of in-person classes and online classes at this time. There will be 13 tracks of classes.
"We are moving forward, and with the help of ICC, AACE, ESP, AEGIS, CCC and IAPMO and our independent contractors, everything is getting tied together for next year's event," Ellis said. "The good news is I am receiving telephone calls and emails from individuals to confirm that EduCode 2021 is occurring."
Registration is expected to begin in October. SN-ICC will provide updates about EduCode 2021 classes as decisions are finalized.

PUBLIC OUTREACH PROGRAMS MOVE FORWARD
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns and restrictions, the Chapter's Public Outreach Committee continues to move forward with the programs benefiting the community.
Special thanks must go to Committee Chairperson Christa Bilbrey of KB Home and members Michael Gentille of PCNA Consulting Group, David Goldstein of Geotek and Terry Kozlowski of the City of North Las Vegas for their outstanding efforts during this challenging period.
Toddler Swimming Lesson Grant Program
The Chapter has contributed $2,500 each to the parks and recreation departments at Clark County and the cities of Henderson, Las Vegas, Mesquite and North Las Vegas to provide free swimming lessons for children 4 years of age and younger. The Public Outreach Committee verified that those jurisdictions offered the swimming lessons this year despite COVID-19 restrictions. Chapter members approved this program in 2009 in an effort to reduce child drowning deaths in Southern Nevada.
Scholarship Program
The Committee members plan to begin meeting twice a month in September to develop the final scholarship selection criteria. The plan is to modify the current criteria to engage students more closely to the goals, mission and programs of SN-ICC, while re-allocating the scoring criteria to more accurately reflect the engagement. The Chapter awards $35,000 annually to local high school and college students for their studies at institutions of higher learning.
Workforce Development Program
The Committee also plans to begin meeting twice a month in September to finalize the list of vocational and training programs that are eligible for SN-ICC grants, and develop the grant award criteria and application process with the Public Education Foundation. The goal is to launch the program in early January. The focus will be on the unemployed to get the proper training and certification so they are ready for code-related employment when the economy improves in 2021. In particular, there will be a need for inspectors to replace those who have retired recently.

SN-ICC SUPPORTS COMPUTER PROGRAM
 The Public Education Foundation, which administers the SN-ICC Scholarship Program each year, has launched a new program, "Next Stop: A Computer Reuse Project," to collect gently used computers to benefit local students who need the devices for virtual learning during the COVID-19 shutdowns and restrictions.
The PEF has partnered with the College of Southern Nevada, which will refurbish donated devices; they seek donations of all brands of laptops, desktop computers and tablets.
- Devices must be no older than five years;
- If the device is password-protected, the PEF/CSN will need the password so they can erase the hard drive;
- If the device is Apple, disconnect from ICloud prior to donation.
SN-ICC has authorized the PEF to use $2,300 of unclaimed SN-ICC scholarship grants to purchase new Chromebooks for this special program.

The City of Las Vegas Department of Building & Safety recently issued an Industry Advisory that it has updated several forms:
-Residential Application
-Commercial Application
-Deferred Submittal Agreement
-Deferred Submittal Application
-Pool/Spa Application
-Revision Application
The City of Henderson has issued an Industry Advisory that existing city utilities are to be included on all permit drawings.
The city requires that all existing city facilities (water, sewer, storm drain, conduit) be identified on all plans submitted for review and approval that propose new work in existing rights of way. Future submittals must show all existing city facilities, including size, in the vicinity of proposed work.
