Triumphant Milestone: A Successful Topping Out Ceremony Marks Progress Towards New School
The topping out ceremony at the new Mid-County Middle School was a success! Superintendent Mark Rendell, School Board Chairman and District 1 representative Megan Wright, along with District 5 representative Katye Campbell and Principal Cathy McNutt, were among the many in attendance for a tour around the school.
The attendees were shown the locations of the classrooms, front office, cafetorium, gymnasium, locker rooms, track, and soccer field, and the progress that has been made. Workers have been diligently engaged in the project since Feb. 1. To commemorate their achievements so far, they were able to participate in a raffle to win amazing prizes.
A special thank you goes to Wharton-Smith and BPS Facilities Services for their invaluable contributions to the construction of Brevard's newest educational facility.
The new Mid-County Middle School is scheduled to open its doors to students in August 2024.

Innovation Games: A Celebration of Ingenuity, Collaboration, and Fun
On Friday, Nov. 17, Brevard Public Schools held the 5th annual Innovation Games at Satellite High School. More than 700 students from 43 schools across the county participated in a variety of exciting events. These events included underwater robotics, drone challenges, model solar car races, an escape challenge, Innovation Playground activities, and an eSports competition. Additionally, there was a shark tank-style invention competition, computer coding challenge, and a school promotional video challenge.
Furthermore, the event wasn't solely about competition. The U.S. Space Force contributed to the experience by introducing a playful element—a robotic dog for students to interact with. Kona Ice also generously provided a refreshing break for participants with complimentary frozen treats!
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Northrop Grumman for being a generous sponsor. Their invaluable support helped make this event possible for our students and coaches. We also express gratitude to Satellite High School for hosting the event. Special thanks to Rock Paper Simple and our district employees for judging and helping facilitate the events.
A warm thank you to all our sponsors and contributors, and congratulations to all the competitors and coaches on a job well done!

JA Stock Market Challenge: Inspiring Financial Acumen and Success Among Brevard County Students
On Thursday, Nov. 16, 50 teams of students from 10 schools around Brevard County competed head-to-head in the JA Stock Market Challenge. The JA Stock Market Challenge is a live simulation where students apply what they learned in the classroom, through the JA Take Stock in Your Future curriculum, to the real world.
Teams were issued $500,000 to buy mock stock in 30 fictitious companies. Once the opening bell rang, the market opened, and every 60-90 seconds represented a new trading day. Students had to track their performance on event screens, respond to world events, identify trends, and make trading adjustments through two hours of trading. At the end of the trading session, Heritage High School had two teams that placed first and second with the largest portfolio, while Space Coast Jr./Sr. High School secured third place. Prizes included a trophy, medals, brand new laptops, tickets to Universal Studios & Islands of Adventure, and scholarships.
