US SOCCER UPDATE ON PLAYER REGISTRATION PATH FORWARD
This past Fall, Wyoming Soccer surveyed our affiliated clubs regarding preference of birth year vs. school registration. Prior to 2017, players registered based on school year. US Soccer has received continuous feedback on this subject since that time and reconsidered their decision. Upon surveying membership across the country, they have determined a path forward, which will take effect at the onset of the 2026-2027 season. THERE WILL BE NO CHANGES UNTIL AUGUST 2026.
You can view US Soccer's survey results and their statement HERE.
Please understand changes to Wyoming Soccer Association's Rules & Procedures will have to be voted on by the Wyoming Soccer Board of Directors in order for our clubs to make changes to their current registration guidelines. At this time, no changes have been determined for Wyoming Soccer member clubs, but rest assured our membership was loud and clear and we heard you and proposed changes will be taken to the board for consideration for the 2026-2027 season.

OVERCOMING THE REFEREE SHORTAGE
Wyoming Soccer is working hard to gain more referees, and the best way to do that is to host or attend a referee clinic. We invite you to take advantage of the opportunity to offset some of the costs of youth soccer, earn some extra money, familiarize yourself with the rules and see things from a new perspective!

NOVEMBER - ORION MONTOYA (CASPER TOPSOCCER)
DECEMBER - DOUGLAS BARTON (UPTON SOCCER LEAGUE)
| | |
Casper Soccer Club's TOPSoccer Player, Orion Montoya, is in the spotlight for the Month of November.
Since Orion is not a typical player, he doesn't play an actual position. In TOPSoccer they play different types of games that resemble soccer, but if you had to pick one, he probably plays more offensively than defensively.
Orion has been playing in Casper's TOPSoccer program for several years and enjoys every minute of it. He is always excited to go play. Orion also goes swimming and bowling with his class every week and loves participating in many activities.
He also loves riding the school bus, going to the arcade, to the mall, and on scenic rides in the car. He is very social and loves participating in activities with his family and friends. He has a contagious smile and laughter and loves getting into mischief. His family and friends absolutely adore him!
Stacey Umbach, his TOPSoccer coach, says Orion is one of his favorite athletes. When he shows up, he is always ready for some fun and soccer. He is not vocal, but he conveys his love of soccer and being around people with his eyes and the big smile on his face. He is always positive and upbeat and never has a bad attitude when he comes to TOPSoccer!
| | |
Upton Soccer League recreational player, Douglas Barton, is in the spotlight for the Month of December.
Douglas is almost 10 years old and he plays both offense and defense. He can play forward, but also plays in the goal. But, if you ask him, he prefers the opportunity to score as a forward!
Douglas has been playing for four years and hasn't played competitively yet, but as he gets older, we may see him on one of our state teams. Wyoming Soccer would love to see our Upton players represented - maybe it will start with Douglas! ;)
He is also involved in basketball and wrestling and plays football with with his friends as much as he can. He sometimes attends Bobcat Adventures, which is an after school program at his school that provides opportunities for academic enrichment, hands-on and movement activities. He also attends Wednesday kids which is put on by Lighthouse Assembly Of God at Upton Community Center.
His interests include being with friends and playing pretty much any sport. He likes fishing, camping, and just being outside in the summer. During the cold winter months, Douglas enjoys downhill sledding, snowboarding and ice fishing.
He is talented and creative in making almost anything he wants. He is always looking out for other people and standing up for his friends. He is a wonderful son, a great friend and teammate! His coach, Danielle McMillan, says Douglas was the most improved player this past season and he's the kid you never have to worry about when it comes to attitude or poor sportsmanship.
| | |
We are honored to recognize both Orion and Douglas as our spotlighted players for the months of November and December. Remember, the Player Spotlight can highlight achievement in any area, whether it's soccer, academics, community, or attitude. All spotlighted players will be recognized at our annual Awards Celebration in March 2025 and will be eligible to win our coveted 2025 Player of the Year or TOPSoccer Player of the Year Award! Please share your kids with us.
To nominate a player from your club for the Player Spotlight, please download the nomination form by clicking HERE. Once completed, please email to wssa@wyomingsoccer.com.
