Thank You, Volunteers!

On Thursday, April 10, Sacred Settlement Prince of Peace hosted a group of young adult volunteers from University of Northwestern in partnership with their Day of Prayer and Service. They began their afternoon with lunch and a presentation by Pastor Peter on our Settlement and by Gabrielle for Settled. They were able to work on indoor projects (cleaning the bathrooms, Common House, kitchen) and outdoor (landscaping/wood chips & gardening.) We are thankful for the conversation and thoughtful consideration and care they brought to our community.

On May 18, we will celebrate our Prince of Peace volunteers during our morning worship services. We are thankful for the ways our congregation and the community surrounds our Settlement with love and prayers.

Settlement Development Team



The Settlement Development Team has issued a preliminary report on the potential expansion of the Prince of Peace Sacred Settlement. Members of the team will be available on May 18 for an informal discussion of the report.

Summary:

The Settlement Development Team recommends expanding our current Sacred Settlement by three homes. Two homes are for people who have been chronically homeless and are invited to join our community, and one home is for an individual or family who commit to living in our community as intentional neighbors.

The proposed strategy for funding the expansion is to conduct a broad appeal to the greater faith community and private foundations for gifts and grants. The Prince of Peace congregation will not be expected to increase giving to fund this project, though individual gifts above and beyond planned giving for PoP operations would be welcome. No government funding will be sought.

In addition to financial needs, the plan will address our PoP capacity to provide the additional supportive friends and purposeful work opportunities needed by new neighbors. Part of that plan will be outreach to other faith communities to participate in our community.

The report concludes the work of this team, though additional information will be gathered and provided to the congregation in preparation for the Semi-Annual meeting on June 29 at 10:45am.
