Hello Oak Ridges Neighbours,

Hope you and your family had an enjoyable summer. It seemed to go so quickly hard to believe that it's September and back to school are around the corner!

Soak up the final nights of summer under the stars as we bring Moonlight Movies to Oak Ridges. On Monday August 28th pack up your chairs and blankets, gather the family and head for Ozark Park (24 Antique Dr. by Bond Lake Arena) to enjoy Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. Pre-show fun starts at 7 p.m. The movie will begin at dusk.

WORK IN PROGRESS

TRAFFIC

  • I've been working with York Region Traffic and they are reevaluating the possibility of installing a stop light at Bayview and Bethesda.
  • We should have a response by the end of September.
  • I am also writing a motion to present to Council in September to initiate pilots of various traffic calming measures to slow down traffic on our streets.
  • The lane closures at Yonge and King for the air management facility is now finished.
  • The new air management facility being built by York Region will rid us of the horrible sewage stink in the area. The facility construction should be completed Spring 2024. More info here.
  • However, work has begun by York Region affecting King Road from Yonge Street to Bond Crescent to improve the condition of the road and replace aging infrastructure which means that King Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the duration of the project. More info here

PARKS

  • I have been working closely with City staff to finally have the fencing removed and the North Shore parkette restored.  Find details here
  • Nice to see a number of Oak Ridges parks being revitalized. It may be inconvenient now but the wait will be worth it! You can find updates here.

OAK RIDGES EVENTS

  • I have been advocating to bring some City events to Ward 1 so I am very pleased to once again have a Moonlight Movie in Oak Ridges on August 28th.
  • My plan is to have the City host more family friendly events next summer in Oak Ridges so stay tuned.
  • There will be an exciting networking event coming in October exclusively for Oak Ridges businesses. More information will be shared soon.
  • Make sure to attend the annual Oak Ridges Terry Fox Run on September 17th. I invite you to join my Let's Conquer Cancer Team and walk with me as we conquer cancer together. Details further below.

Oak Ridges Terry Fox Run

Sunday September 17, 2023

In 1980, Terry ran for us. Now, it's our turn to make a difference.

Let's conquer cancer together and raise money and awareness for cancer research, honor loved ones touched by cancer, and revel in a great Canadian tradition, the Oak Ridges Terry Fox Run!

Click here and join the Let's Conquer Cancer Team and walk with Carol on September 17th and let's conquer cancer together.

Louie loves outings with his human.

They visit parks and trails throughout the City.

When Louie does his ‘business’, his human always makes sure to stoop and scoop.

Pet waste bags with pet waste in them can be placed in the green bin (organics).

Thank you for picking up after your pet and helping others enjoy their outings too.

How MPAC Impacts Your Property Taxes

  • Every four years, the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is supposed to update all the property assessment values in Ontario, with the changes phased-in over four years.
  • As part of the Ontario Government’s Budget on March 24, 2023 the Minister of Finance announced the Province’s decision to once again postpone a province-wide property assessment update due to the pandemic.
  • Property assessments for the 2023 property tax year will continue to be based on January 1, 2016 property values.
  • Since 2016 the other nine provinces will on average have reassessed properties more than six times.
  • On August 19, 2023 the Ontario government announced that it is postponing a provincewide property reassessment indefinitely while it conducts a new review of the accuracy and fairness of the system.
  • Please visit MPAC's website for more information.
