We recently heard this story from a member of our Academy, and we feel that we have a solution to help our artistic members face these challenges.
She writes...
I need some encouragement! I went to an arts and crafts festival, and a lady came up to me and was looking at my paintings and invited me to their group of artist club. I went and joined, and when she introduced me, she said she had met at the art fair and that I had these cute little paintings of trucks, etc., kind of like pop art!! I was astounded! She was talking about the rusty truck, red barns, and old English truck.
They are having a juried show in November, and she told me I would not be able to show any of my tutorials, that it would have to be an original, no copies of other paintings, and no published photographs! And that I had a month of time to come up with an original! I felt like I was being talked down to.....so, I'm going to enter this show and show her!!!
To be honest, I don't have hardly any originals, most all of them are your tutorials. But I do have this rose that I did. Do I need a different background or more contrast?
OUR HELPFUL SOLUTION IS TO OFFER CHALLENGE PHOTOS
A new thing I am doing for our Red, Blue, and Purple Academy members is a custom photo challenge painting. This will be exclusively for our students which take advantage of our Personal Art Coaching. The students who have done a very good job on my tutorials might be offered a challenge photo. This is to see if you can capitalize on what you learned from the video tutorial and do something similar.
This is a new thing I am doing as I'm trying to accommodate the folks who really want to learn how to paint from their own pictures, which is just about everybody... Jon will make a certificate of accomplishment, too. This will count as one of the four pictures you can send in a month for PAC, but you can send it back and forth as long as we are working with the painting like the other PACs.
