Are you holding your brush the right way?

Correctly holding your paintbrush can make a big difference in how easy it is to complete the painting.

For example, when your arm or wrist starts to cramp up or even your hand, you can lose focus and not feel like completing the painting.

So ask yourself these questions as you look at the photo above.

1. Am I painting from my shoulder and not my wrist?

2. Is my middle finger loose, relaxed, and not pushing hard and bent on the brush handle?

3. If I am working on a floor easel, am I at eye level, with the height of the chair or the easel adjusted to the correct position?

4. If I am working on a floor easel, do I keep my wrist below my ear so the blood does not start to leave my arm?

5. Do you use an artist bridge to rest your arm on if painting on a flat surface?

Botanical Garden in Christchurch New Zealand

As our New Zealand adventures continued, Jon went ashore for a "walk about" in this wonderful botanical garden with many flowers blooming. The bees were very busy doing what bees do! Our Purple Members are going to be busy as bees themselves!

We will be trying to get more posts to our Instagram account. With this being new for us, we still have a lot to learn. This first leg of the trip was filled with many excursions and challenging internet connections. We will share some of our adventures as soon as possible.

We are still trying to reach of 10K goal of followers for both. Please visit both of these sites and "follow" them so we can reach our Instagram account and public Facebook page.

Everywhere, flowers were in bloom and added a lot of color to the winter blues that so many of you are experiencing now.

We have many plans for 2023 and beyond, so everyone should be sure to follow us in the Facebook club private group, our newly launched Ginger Cook Live public page, where more topics will be discussed, and our Instagram page.

Now, for our Purple Members, we are developing a unique "site" with additional bonus materials, including original movies and access to many of the photographs we take along the journey. The specifics are still being worked out, but if you are a Purple Member, you can be assured that 2023 will be a very joyful year for you!

ATTENTION ALL PURPLE MEMBERS - AGAIN!

We have a challenge for you! This will be just a small sampling of the fun and educational things coming your way!

We have asked the Purple Members what they want to learn or what they are finding challenging in their paintings. So, with this in mind, we have a challenge for you that requires you to visit our website and look at a painting by Edmund Tarbell in our new series..."What can we learn from the Masters of yesteryear?"

These will be fun little exercises that will teach you to look at the paintings of the masters and notice some of the more subtle techniques that they employed in their artwork.

Challenges? Personal Art Coaching? Want more?

This wonderful painting by Marilyn McFerran after a Personal Art Coaching session with Ginger.

Only minor tweaks needed to be done, such as flattening the bottom and working with the thick and thin lines in the cracks of the table.

Because of this outstanding job of following the video tutorial and following through with the suggestions from Ginger's PAC, Marilyn has been given a photo challenge piece to paint using what she has learned in this tutorial on "Karen's Antique Brass Kettle".
