If Van Gogh painted carousel horses, he would likely have captured the vibrant, joyful energy of the spinning animals in his signature impasto style. His thick brushstrokes and bold use of color would have perfectly captured the playful spirit of the carousel. In this acrylic painting tutorial, we will walk both beginner and advanced artists through the steps of creating a Van Gogh-inspired carousel horse painting.

We will cover everything from selecting your colors and sketching out your composition to layering and blending your paint to create depth and movement. By the end of the tutorial, you will have a beautiful, whimsical piece that captures the magic of the carousel.

We will be on at 5:30 pm central (6:30 pm Eastern)

Orsie the Arabian Horse

For those of you wanting to paint a more realistic horse, this gorgeous Arabian will be the answer. You will learn about blending colors and painting a captivating eye.

This Arabian filly was born on Ginger's ranch in California in the late 1980s. Though she moved to Texas with Ginger and her other 2 horses she eventually ended up a beloved family horse of one of her closest friends in California who kept her the rest of her life. This painting was inspired by memories of her at that age.

Less than 30 Days Remain to Purchase

the Ginger Cook 2023 Calendars

We offered two sizes this year and plan on the same for next. We were only able to offer the larger to the North America market but will see what we can do for next year.

Look for more great paintings in next year's calendar...we have already designed over 30 lessons for this year! and many more to come.

We will be expanding our downloadable lesson library for those that just want to purchase a lesson or two.

Okay, we have not added anything new this time, but we have some great designs and ideas that are in the works and will be released soon.

Just a reminder that our 2023 Calendar will be on sale only through the month of January, then it will be removed permanently from our store.

Each year, we will be producing a calendar that will be available through January of the year it's for.

We are either home or on the way!

Goodbye, Sydney!

Good Australia! We have had a wonderful 48 days down-under! We will be returning in 2024 for a short visit, but more on that later.

We had a fantastic trip to Sydney, Australia, on a cruise ship. The weather was beautiful, and the people were very friendly. We also visited Mystery Island and New Caledonia, both of which were stunning destinations with crystal-clear waters and beautiful beaches. In Manly, we had a memorable time walking along the waterfront and beach and then had a delicious lunch at Alice's Dumpling restaurant. It was an unforgettable trip and one that we will always cherish.

ATTENTION ALL PURPLE MEMBERS - SOON!

Purple Members - Look for an email specifically for you within the next week.

We have set up an email group just for our Purple Members, so be looking for just a quick email so we can see who's actually getting and reading them. Look for one this week!

Out of all the Purple Members that we have registered, we have only heard from about 25% of you! Not to worry, we will be moving forward with our plans and getting started the first of the year with some new benefits for what will be known as the Royal Purple Member plan.

Use Contact Us, and put PURPLE in the subject line so we can add you to the all-important list!

We have a challenge for you! This will be just a small sampling of the fun and educational things coming your way!

Ginger and Jon will be looking at the answers from the quiz and then give their opinions and the reasoning behind their choices. Look for this soon!

We have asked the Purple Members what they want to learn or what they are finding challenging in their paintings. So, with this in mind, we have a challenge for you that requires you to visit our website and look at a painting by Edmund Tarbell in our new series..."What can we learn from the Masters of yesteryear?"

These will be fun little exercises that will teach you to look at the paintings of the masters and notice some of the more subtle techniques that they employed in their artwork.

We want more Purples to participate before we discuss the answers.

Where are you, PURPLES?

Shout Out to Sandra Marshall

Sandra Marshall is a talented artist who has a keen eye for detail. In her painting of a horse and cowboy, "My Friend Flika," she has masterfully captured the true essence of the horse, paying close attention to the lights and darks to give the cowboy a sense of depth. The horse's powerful legs are expertly rendered, with the cowboy's tack adding a sense of realism to the scene. Sandra has a talent for bringing her subjects to life on canvas; this painting is a testament to her skill and attention to detail. Whether portraying the horse's musculature or the cowboy's rugged determination, Marshall's work is always a pleasure to behold.
